Inleiding
Aan de westelijke zijde van de Nieuwstraat staat, met de rooilijn direct aan de straat, een eenvoudig vrijstaand DORPSWOONHUIS in ambachtelijk-traditionele stijl omstreeks 1875. Omstreeks een eeuw later is aan de achterzijde een aanbouw gerealiseerd.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuis telt één bouwlaag, heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met verbeterde Hollandse pannen. Het huis heeft handvorm bakstenen gevels. De a-symmetrische voorgevel telt vier vensterassen, waarvan er drie aan de linkerzijde van het huis, en één aan de rechterzijde. De voorgevel heeft een gepleisterde plint en fries, de laatste voorzien van geometrische figuren. De linkerzijde van het woonhuis heeft centraal in de drie vensterassen een paneeldeur, voorzien van bovenlicht met levensboom. Deze wordt geflankeerd door van hardstenen dorpels en opgeklampte luiken voorziene zesruits schuifvensters. Het overige deel van de gevel bestaat, op een solitaire zesruiter (waarvan de luiken zijn verwijderd) aan de (zuidelijke) rechterzijde na, uit gesloten muurwerk.
De zijgevels zijn opgetrokken in handvorm baksteen. Aan de zuidelijke zijde twee zesruits schuifvensters en op de etage een kleinere zesruiter, aan de noordelijke zijde een zesruiter en een klein licht, met op de etage twee vierruits openslaande vensters.
Tegen de achterzijde en aangrenzend aan de noordelijke zijgevel staat een moderne, in stijl aangepaste aanbouw met onder meer een garage.
Van belang zijn de drie knotlinden (waarvan twee met een stamomvang ruim een meter, de derde is naoorlogs) die voor de straatgevel staan.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van middenstandswoningen in het bestaande historische weefsel; het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het dorpswoonhuis, waarbij de woning de negentiende-eeuwse fase in deze in Oirschot vanaf de zeventiende eeuw aanwijsbare ontwikkeling representeert. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de stijl en detaillering, waarbij een aan de stedelijke architectuur ontleende vormentaal aangepast wordt voor de representatie van het zelfbewustzijn van de dorpse elite. Het huis heeft ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van een karakteristieke reeks dorpshuizen in de oude kern van Oirschot. Het is van belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur. On the western side of the Nieuwstraat stands, with its building line directly on the street, a simple detached VILLAGE DWELLING in craft-traditional style around 1875. Around a century later, an extension was added to the rear.
Description
The dwelling comprises one storey, has a rectangular floor plan and is covered by a gabled roof with improved Dutch tiles. The house has handmade brick facades. The asymmetrical front facade has four window bays, three of which are on the left side of the house, and one on the right side. The front facade has a plastered plinth and frieze, the latter provided with geometric figures. The left side of the dwelling has centrally positioned in the three window bays a panelled door, provided with a fanlight with tree of life motif. This is flanked by six-pane sash windows provided with hardstone sills and clamped shutters. The remainder of the facade consists, apart from a solitary six-pane window (whose shutters have been removed) on the (southern) right side, of solid masonry.
The side facades are constructed in handmade brick. On the southern side two six-pane sash windows and on the upper floor a smaller six-pane window, on the northern side a six-pane window and a small light, with on the upper floor two four-pane casement windows.
Against the rear and adjacent to the northern side facade stands a modern, stylistically adapted extension incorporating, among other things, a garage.
Of importance are the three pollard lindens (two of which have a trunk circumference of just over one metre, the third is post-war) that stand in front of the street facade.
Valuation
The dwelling is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of middle-class dwellings in the existing historic fabric; it is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the village dwelling, whereby the dwelling represents the nineteenth-century phase in this development traceable in Oirschot since the seventeenth century. The object is of architectural-historical significance through its style and detailing, whereby a formal language derived from urban architecture is adapted for the representation of the self-consciousness of the village elite. The house has ensemble value as part of a characteristic series of village dwellings in the old centre of Oirschot. It is of importance due to the architectural integrity of its exterior.
