Omschrijving
Het representatieve tweelaagse hoofdgebouw van de tuchtschool heeft een T-vormige plattegrond onder uitkragende chaletachtige daken, belegd met rode geglazuurde Friese pannen met op de kop gesneden halfronde houten schijnspanten steunend op consoles. De voorgevel aan het plein is vijf traveeën breed en symmetrisch van opzet. Boven de voordeur een gemetselde topgevel onder zadeldak. In het verlengde van dit gedeelte van het hoofdgebouw aan weerskanten een tweelaagse vleugel onder plat dak, met een ommuurde luchtplaats. Voor de laatste verbouwing bevonden zich hier aan weerskanten 16 isoleercellen en een cachot. Hierachter, rond de rechthoekige binnenplaats de zakelijke tweelaagse bijgebouwen met platte daken. Aan de zijkanten van de binnenplaats de les- en recreatiezalen en aan de achterkant parallel met het hoofdgebouw het 'slaaphuis'. Het slaaphuis, nu verbouwd tot leslokalen, heeft tien raamtraveeën aan de binnenplaats. Het bevatte oorspronkelijk 48 chambrettes.
Het opgaande werk van het hoofdgebouw, dienstwoningen en bijgebouwen bestaat uit paarsrode machinale baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband afgewisseld door horizontale rode banden met toepassing van natuursteen voor basement, dorpels en sluitstenen. Muuropeningen met segmentbogen. Houten kozijnen met samengestelde negenruits vensters. De gangen in de tuchtschool hebben gele tegelvloeren met een zwarte rand en een lambrizering van schoonmetselwerk waarin meerkleurige geglazuurde bakstenen zijn verwerkt.

Description
The representative two-storey main building of the reformatory school has a T-shaped floor plan under projecting chalet-like roofs, laid with red glazed Frisian tiles with half-round wooden false roof-trusses cut at the head and resting on consoles. The front facade facing the square is five bays wide and symmetrical in layout. Above the front door a brick gable under a gabled roof. In the extension of this section of the main building on either side a two-storey wing under a flat roof, with an enclosed exercise yard. Before the last renovation there were 16 isolation cells and a punishment cell on either side. Behind this, around the rectangular courtyard the functional two-storey outbuildings with flat roofs. On the sides of the courtyard the classrooms and recreation rooms and at the back parallel with the main building the 'dormitory'. The dormitory, now converted to classrooms, has ten window bays facing the courtyard. It originally contained 48 small rooms.
The masonry of the main building, service dwellings and outbuildings consists of purplish-red machined brick laid in running bond alternated by horizontal red bands with the use of natural stone for basement, lintels and voussoirs. Window openings with segmental arches. Wooden frames with composite nine-pane windows. The corridors in the reformatory school have yellow tile floors with a black border and a wall-lining of fair-faced brickwork into which multicoloured glazed bricks are set.
