Omschrijving
Inleiding LUCHTHAVENGEBOUW. Gebouwd in 1934/1935 naar ontwerp van ir.D.Roosenburg voor de toenmalige burgerluchthaven Welschap. Het pand is in een Functionalistische stijl gebouwd en kwam tot stand in het kader van een werkverschaffingsprojekt. Het luchthavengebouw ligt nu in de wijk 'Meerhoven', in het westen van Eindhoven. Het is momenteel in gebruik als informatiecentrum voor de wijk 'Meerhoven'.
Omschrijving
Gebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond onder plat dak met overstek. Het pand heeft een tweelaags gedeelte waarin zich de dienstruimten bevinden.
Daartegenaan is een éénlaagse vertrekhal geplaatst waarin een restaurant. Het platte dak van deze hal deed in de oorspronkelijke toestand dienst als terras. Tussen deze twee bouwdelen in is aan de achterkant een bolle uitbouw waarin zich het trappehuis bevindt. Aan de voorzijde is een vijfhoekige uitbouw aanwezig, op de twee bouwlagen zijn een glazen opbouw met houten kap en een omloop geplaatst ten behoeve van de controlekamer voor de vluchtleiding.
Het gebouw heeft een betonskelet. Vertrekhal en delen van de vluchtleidingstoren zijn geheel uitgevoerd in beton. Verder bestaat de invulling van het betonskelet uit gepleisterde baksteen.
De vertrekhal is voorzien van hoge ramen. In het dienstgedeelte zijn op de begane grond brede ramen aangebracht. De oorspronkelijke indeling van de vensters is niet geheel bewaard gebleven. Alle vensters zijn voorzien van metalen kozijnen. Ook de buitendeur naar het dakterras is in metaal uitgevoerd. In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling bewaard gebleven.
Waardering
Het luchthavengebouw is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de industriestad Eindhoven en de groei van de luchtvaart in het interbellum en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de luchthavengebouwen.
