Inleiding
WOONHUIS, in 1924 gebouwd naar ontwerp van F. Wolters. Uitgevoerd in Amsterdamse School-stijl. Het is opgenomen in de westelijke straatwand van de Markt, in het centrum van Eindhoven.
Recent is een doorbraak naar het buurpand gemaakt. Het interieur is daarbij gemoderniseerd.
Omschrijving
Smal, vierlaags pand onder een plat dak, uitgevoerd in baksteen op een rechthoekige plattegrond. De zijgevels zijn opgetrokken in donkere baksteen, aan de bovenzijde afgedekt met dakpannen. De voorgevel bestaat op de begane grond uit een natuurstenen pui in een rechthoekige vormgeving (gedeeltelijk gemoderniseerd). Vanaf de eerste verdieping, is deze gevel uitgevoerd in een lichtere steen en vertoont de kenmerken van de Amsterdamse School. In het midden van de gevel zijn de ramen in een golvend uitstekend deel geplaatst. De rechterzijde van het pand is afgerond en wordt bekroond door een smaller, hoger opgetrokken rond element. De verschillende uitstekende delen zijn steeds voorzien van een betonnen band aan de bovenzijde.
De bovenlichten van de ramen in het midden van de gevel hebben een roedenverdeling in laddervorm. Aan weerszijden daarvan zijn smalle raampjes aangebracht.
Waardering
Het voormalige woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting en schaalvergroting van woningen in het bestaande stedelijk weefsel; het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het smalle verdiepingshuis. Narrow, four-storey building under a flat roof, executed in brick on a rectangular plan. The side facades are built in dark brick, capped at the top with roof tiles. The front facade on the ground floor consists of a natural stone shop front in a rectangular design (partly modernised). From the first storey, this facade is executed in a lighter stone and displays the characteristics of the Amsterdam School. In the centre of the facade the windows are placed in a curved projecting section. The right side of the building is rounded and crowned by a narrower, taller rounded element. The various projecting sections are each provided with a concrete band at the top.
