Inleiding
Hoofdgebouw, voormalig ADMINISTRATIEGEBOUW van het gesticht, in Neo-Renaissancestijl gebouwd in ca. 1918, vermoedelijk naar ontwerp van het bureau Rijksbouwmeesters.
Omschrijving
Het pand bestaat uit een langgerekte tweelaagse vleugel (veertien vensterassen breed) onder een zadeldak, afgesloten door drielaagse hoekmassa's onder schilddaken, haaks op het dak van de hoofdmassa. De vleugel wordt onderbroken door een drielaags middendeel met topgevel. Dit gedeelte heeft een schilddak, evenwijdig aan het zadeldak. Het dak wordt bekroond door een torentje met ui-spits en wijzerplaat aan de voorzijde. De drielaagse delen steken aan voor- en achterzijde uit ten opzichte van de vleugel. De hoekmassa's zijn aan de voorzijde voorzien van rechthoekige erkers met een bolle uitbouw. Erboven is een balkon aangebracht, de balustrade heeft natuurstenen balusters.
De ingang in het middendeel is aan voor- en achterzijde vernieuwd en van een luifel voorzien. In de gevel zijn verder een groot aantal rechthoekige vierruitsramen aanwezig, de bovenlichten daarvan hebben een kleine roedenverdeling. In het middendeel en hoekblokken op de verdieping ook samengestelde ramen. De erkers hebben terrasdeuren.
In het dakvlak zijn in elke vensteras aan de voor- en achterzijde dakkapellen aangebracht, voorzien van een gebogen fronton. In de drielaagse delen bevinden deze dakkapellen zich ook in de zijkanten van het dakvlak.
Waardering
Het administratiegebouw is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een sociale en bestuurlijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van inrichtingen voor de zwakzinnigenzorg van rijkswege in of nabij de grote steden en als voorbeeld van een typologische ontwikkeling van de gebouwen voor de zwakzinnigenzorg. Architectuurhistorisch is het van belang vanwege de gematigde Neo-renaissancestijl die door de rijksoverheidsbureaus werd toegepast. The building consists of an elongated two-storey wing (fourteen window bays wide) under a gabled roof, terminated by three-storey corner masses under hipped roofs, perpendicular to the roof of the main mass.
