Inleiding
RUITERSTANDBEELD, voorstellende St. Joris en de draak. Het beeld werd gemaakt door J. Custers in 1909, in een neogotische stijl.
Het standbeeld is voor het internaat gebouw Eikenburg geplaatst, in het verlengde van de oprijlaan.
Omschrijving
Het standbeeld bestaat uit St. Joris te paard met de draak aan zijn voeten. Het geheel is geplaatst op een grote sokkel met een band met bladmotieven. Platen met inscripties zijn aan de voorzijde (ST/GEORGE/BESCHERM/EIKENBURG) en achterzijde J.v.d.W./G.v.L./19-7/6-09) van de sokkel aangebracht.
Het geheel is uitgevoerd in kalksteen en wit geschilderd. Een uitzondering daarop wordt gevormd door de metalen speer van St. Joris.
Waardering
Het ruiterstandbeeld is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het ruiterstandbeeld. Het is kunsthistorisch van belang vanwege de stijl en als voorbeeld van het werk van het atelier Custers. Het heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de samenhang van hoofgebouw, kapel en standbeeld. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en als religieus ruiterstandbeeld betrekkelijk zeldzaam.

Description
The statue consists of St. George on horseback with the dragon at his feet. The whole is placed on a large plinth with a band with leaf motifs. Plates with inscriptions are placed on the front (ST/GEORGE/BESCHERM/EIKENBURG) and rear (J.v.d.W./G.v.L./19-7/6-09) of the plinth.
The whole is executed in limestone and painted white. An exception is formed by the metal spear of St. George.
Evaluation
The equestrian statue is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an example of the typological development of the equestrian statue. It is of art-historical importance because of the style and as an example of the work of the Custers studio. It has ensemble value because of the coherence of main building, chapel and statue. It has been preserved in good condition and as a religious equestrian statue it is relatively rare.
