Omschrijving
Inleiding
KOELTOREN van voormalige brikettenfabriek. De grondstof voor de briketten werd verkregen van de Domaniale Mijn te Kerkrade. De Domaniale Mijn was de eerste steenkolenmijn in Limburg derhalve ook in Nederland.
De toren behoort tot de allerlaatste bedrijfsgebouwen die herinneren aan de voor Nederland unieke mijngeschiedenis. De koeltoren dateert uit 1922 en werd ontworpen door architect N. Sterk.
De aangebouwde fabrieksloodsen van omstreeks 1980 zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Halfvrijstaande koeltoren op een vierkante plattegrond. De toren is samengesteld uit een aantal vierkante, steeds kleiner wordende elementen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is beton. Hoeksteunberen. Aan twee zijden van de toren zijn aanbouwen gerealiseerd.
In de basis van de toren is een deuropening gekapt.
Het gehele binnenwerk van de toren werd in 1946 gesloopt. In de zijwanden werden diverse openingen gekapt en van aluminium kozijnen voorzien. De toren is omstreeks 1980 voorzien van een plat dak. Restanten van enkele betonnen balken in het INTERIEUR van de toren. De vloer werd met beton volgestort. In de toren kwamen enkele tussenvloeren ten behoeve van de nieuwe functie van opslagruimte.
Waardering
De koeltoren bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als herinnering aan de voor Nederland unieke mijngeschiedenis. Door de behouden gebleven ongearticuleerde, enigszins plompe verschijningsvorm is het object als koeltoren duidelijk herkenbaar gebleven; de koeltoren heeft een vierkante plattegrond en dat is in typologisch opzicht zeldzaam; de koeltoren is bovendien zeer zeldzaam als object uit de geschiedenis van de mijnbouw en beschikt over hoge relictwaarden; ten slotte heeft de koeltoren symbolisch-historische betekenis en vertegenwoordigt als zodanig nationaal belang.

COOLING TOWER of a former briquette factory. The raw material for the briquettes was obtained from the Domaniale Mine at Kerkrade. The Domaniale Mine was the first coal mine in Limburg and therefore also in the Netherlands.

Semi-detached cooling tower on a square plan. The tower is composed of a number of square elements, progressively becoming smaller. The building material used is concrete. Corner buttresses. On two sides of the tower extensions have been realized.
In the base of the tower a doorway has been cut.
The entire interior of the tower was demolished in 1946. In the side walls various openings have been cut and fitted with aluminium frames. The tower was provided with a flat roof around 1980. The cooling tower has cultural-historical value as a reminder of the mining history unique to the Netherlands.
