Inleiding
In 1923 door P.L. Kramer in Amsterdamse School-stijl ontworpen en in 1925 gerealiseerde vaste PLAATBRUG met twee doorvaarten, genoemd Leidsebrug, in opdracht van de afdeling Bruggen van de toenmalige dienst Publieke Werken in de gemeente Amsterdam. Het beeldhouwwerk is van Johan Polet. De brug (nummer 174) ligt over de Singelgracht en verbindt de Stadhouderskade met het Leidseplein.
N.B. Het betreft hier de eerste brug waarin zitelementen in het ontwerp waren opgenomen.
Omschrijving
Vaste plaatbrug met twee doorvaarten. Landhoofden en pijlers van natuursteen. Overdadig gedecoreerde verzwaringen van graniet op de hoeken van de landhoofden voorstellende nijlpaarden en leeuwenkoppen (2x) en overig klein beeldhouwwerk, overgaand in borstweringen langs de walkant. In deze borstweringen zijn houten zitgelegenheden opgenomen. De borstweringen eindigen in ronde en spits toelopende bollen. Decoratief smeedijzeren balustraden op de borstweringen en op het hoofdgedeelte van de brug. Enkele balusters in de opengewerkte delen van de verzwaringen. Rechte stalen randliggers met geprofileerde afdeklijst waarop de hoofdbalustrade is vastgezet.

Vaste plaatbrug in Amsterdamse School-stijl, genoemd Leidsebrug, van algemeen belang vanwege cultuurhistorische waarde vanwege het belang van het object als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. Introduction
In 1923 designed by P.L. Kramer in Amsterdam School style and realised in 1925, a fixed PLATE BRIDGE with two passages, named Leidsebrug, by order of the Bridges department of the then Public Works service in the municipality of Amsterdam. Description
Fixed plate bridge with two passages. Abutments and piers of natural stone. Lavishly decorated stone reinforcements of granite at the corners of the abutments depicting hippopotamus and lion heads (2x) and other small sculpture, transitioning into parapets along the quay side. In these parapets wooden seating is incorporated. The parapets end in round and pointed spheres. Decorative wrought-iron balustrrades on the parapets and on the main part of the bridge. Some balusters in the open-worked sections of the reinforcements. Straight steel edge beams with moulded cover strip on which the main balustrade is fixed.
