Inleiding
VOLIERE (24), de zogenaamde 'uilenruïne', onderdeel van het Artiscomplex. De volière ligt op de oostelijke helft van het park ten noorden van de middenas. Het bouwwerk is in 1921 door dr. A.F.J.Portielje ontworpen. Vermoedelijk heeft Portielje gebruik gemaakt van bouwresten van het voormalige Brabantse kasteel Brederode.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand op sleutelgatvormige plattegrond opgetrokken romantische ruïne. Nagebouwde muur- en torenrestanten waarin nissen als verblijfplaats voor de vogels. Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich een aangrenzende vijver als verwijzing naar een slotgracht.
Waardering
Volière uit 1921 van algemeen belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het Artis-complex en vanwege de oudere bouwmaterialen.

VOLIERE (24), the so-called 'owl ruin', component of the Artis complex. The volière is located on the eastern half of the park north of the central axis. The building was designed in 1921 by Dr. A.F.J. Portielje. Portielje presumably made use of building remains from the former Brabantine castle Brederode.
Description
A romantic ruin erected on a keyhole-shaped ground plan standing freely. Reconstructed wall and tower remains in which niches serve as dwelling places for the birds. On the rear side there is an adjoining pond as a reference to a castle moat.
Valuation
Volière from 1921 of general importance as a historic-functional component of the Artis complex and on account of the older building materials.
