Inleiding
Op een samengesteld rechthoekig grondplan tot stand gekomen tegenwoordig DIERENVERBLIJF(19), het zogenaamde 'oude broedmachinehuis/duivenhuis', onderdeel van het Artiscomplex. Het gebouw ligt op de oostelijke helft van het park ten zuiden van de middenas. Het gebouw dateert grotendeels van voor 1850 en maakt deel uit van de oorspronkelijke bebouwing in de Plantage, voordat Artis zich in deze buurt vestigde. In 1863 als onderkomen voor sier- en postduiven bij de dierentuin gevoegd.
Omschrijving
Hoog opgetrokken bouwdeel onder zadeldak met pannen. Houten overstek met windveer. De gevels zijn voorzien van ruw pleisterwerk. Toegangspartij in witgeschilderd houten kader met hoog drievoudig bovenlicht onder lijst. Verder een enkel venster en halfrond stalraam.

Introduction
On a composite rectangular ground plan created present-day ANIMAL ENCLOSURE (19), the so-called 'old brooder house/dovecote', part of the Artis complex. The building is located on the eastern half of the park south of the central axis. The building dates largely from before 1850 and is part of the original development in the Plantage, before Artis established itself in this area. Description
Highly constructed building section under gabled roof with tiles. Wooden overhang with wind brace. The facades are provided with rough plasterwork. Entrance section in whitewashed wooden frame with high triple fanlight beneath moulding. Further a single window and semicircular stable window.

Animal enclosure of general importance as a historical-functional component of the Artis complex and due to the older (construction) history associated with it.
