In oorsprong 17de-eeuws SPEELHUIS, in 1877 verbouwd en ingericht als ZAADKOEPEL bij de toen naast gelegen palmenkas en oranjerie(later vervangen door het Hugo-de-Vries-laboratorium). Het gebouw is een onderdeel van het complex Hortus Botanicus
Omschrijving
Aan de linkerzijde met het laboratorium verbonden voormalig speelhuis en latere zaadkoepel. Het gebouwtje ligt iets terug van de rooilijn. Het terrein ervoor wordt afgesloten met een eenvoudig gietijzeren spijlenhek, waarin twee vleugels tussen stijlen als toegang tot het gebouw. Klein octagonaal gebouwtje bestaande uit een kelder, een begane grond met daarop een eveneens achtzijdige lichtkoepel. De onderbouw en de betegelde kelder hebben een binnenwerkse maat van 4.14 m. De onderbouw is gepleisterd en voorzien van eenvoudige geledingen met waterlijsten en spaarvelden e.d. Hierin een eenvoudige toegangsdeur aan de NO-zijde en verder omlijste rondboogvenster en een kroonlijst. Boven de kroonlijst is de koepel aangebracht met grote zesruitsvensters tussen smalle pilasters, waarboven een kroonlijst en een tentdak met zinken bedekking en piron.
Waardering
Speelhuis en latere zaadkoepel van algemeen belang vanwege zijn ouderdom en vanwege de herkenbaarheid van de lokaal topografische ontwikkeling (van Plantage naar Hortus) en als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Hortus Botanicus.
