In 1865-1866 on the corner of Plantage Parklaan, Henri Polaklaan and Plantage Middenlaan, a block of TOWNHOUSES was built on commission by W. Brummer, originally comprising 16 (now 15) townhouses designed in the eclectic style by G.W. Breuker, as one of the first large blocks after the land grant of the Plantage in 1859/1860.

Description

Originally a U-shaped block of adjoining white-rendered townhouses with basement, piano nobile and two further storeys and an attic storey. The building block, set up as one unified whole, contains individual differences in detailing and is rounded at both corners. The residential floor plans are each mirrored. Each building has three window bays and is individually roofed with a hipped roof; roofs predominantly covered with shingles and fitted with a roof dormer with hoist beam. The roofs of the buildings Plantage Parklaan 19, 20 and Plantage Parklaan 10, 11 have gentler hips and only on the front elevation have two original roof dormers with a straight finish and a slightly arched window with double frame and a hoist beam. The remaining roofs have a roof dormer with curved pediment or pediment on the front elevation. Some rafters and transitions to the truncated roof section are reinforced with moulding.
