Inleiding
In oorsprong 17de-eeuws, doch in 1862 in chaletstijl verbouwde HORTULANUSWONING, thans in gebruik als entreegebouw van de Hortus, onderdeel van het complex Hortus Botanicus.
NB. Dit gebouw werd reeds getoond op de titelpagina van Caspar Commelins 'Rariorum Plantarum Horti Medici Amstelaedamensis Historia', 1701.
Omschrijving De hortulanuswoning sluit aan de linkerzijde tegen het belendende Hugo de Vries-laboratorium; aan de rechterzijde verbindt een lagere aanbouw de eigenlijke woning met de gemetselde pijler van de toegangspoort. In deze aanbouw verder een eenvoudige ingangspartij met deur en bovenlicht. De woning heeft één bouwlaag en is vijf traveeën breed. Het met zwarte pannen pannen gedekte schilddak heeft aan de voorzijde een forse, drie traveeën brede dakkapel, waarvan de aankapping windveren en decoratief houtwerk langs de randen heeft. Ook de waterkeringen boven de vensters zijn voorzien van houtwerkdecoratie. Links en rechts van de dakkapel staat een opengewerkte houten balustrade. De gevels zijn gepleisterd en lichtgroen geschilderd. De vensters bevatten roedeverdeelde schuiframen.
Waardering Tuinmanswoning van algemeen belang vanwege zijn ouderdom, vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarden en als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het complex Hortus Botanicus.

Originally 17th century, but converted in 1862 in chalet style, HORTULANUS HOUSE, now in use as an entrance building of the Hortus, part of the Hortus Botanicus complex.
NB. This building was already shown on the title page of Caspar Commelin's 'Rariorum Plantarum Horti Medici Amstelaedamensis Historia', 1701.
Description The hortulanus house adjoins on the left side the adjacent Hugo de Vries laboratory; on the right side a lower annexe connects the actual house to the brick pillar of the access gate. In this annexe further a simple entrance section with door and fanlight. The house has one storey and is five bays wide. The hipped roof covered with black tiles has on the front a substantial dormer three bays wide, whose roof structure has decorative woodwork along the edges. The drip mouldings above the windows are also provided with wood decoration. Left and right of the dormer stands an openwork wooden balustrade. The facades are plastered and painted light green. The windows contain sash windows with glazing bars.
Valuation Gardener's house of general importance because of its age, because of its architectural-historical values and as a historical-functional component of the Hortus Botanicus complex.
