Inleiding
In 1898 naar eclectisch ontwerp van J. Ingenohl in natuursteen uitgevoerde FONTEIN ter herinnering aan de bankier en politicus Abraham Carel Wertheim (1832-1897). De op 3 oktober 1898 onthulde fontein bevindt zich in het zuidwestelijke deel van het Wertheimpark, dat ooit deel uitmaakte van de Hortus Medicus, maar sinds 1897 de functie van openbaar wandelpark heeft.
Omschrijving
De rondom vrijgelegen fontein heeft ter hoogte van het maaiveld een octagonaal bassin met een opstaande rand. In het midden hiervan bevindt zich een eveneens achtzijdig, getrapt plateau, waarop acht korte granieten zuilen een tweede rond bekken met acht spuwers in de rand dragen. De zuilen hebben een basement en dorisch kapiteel in een andere natuursteensoort. De basementen zijn aan de binnenzijde verlengd tot het middelpunt, waar zij te samen komen en dienen als basement voor een zware, brede granieten trommel. Deze ondersteunt zowel het ronde bekken als de zuil die hieruit oprijst. Dit betreft een eveneens granieten zuil met corintisch kapiteel en een gedecoreerde bronzen vaas als bekroning. Halverwege de zuil is een sierlijk wapenveld geplaatst met de portretmedaille van A.C. Wertheim in reliëf.

Introduction
In 1898 a FOUNTAIN was executed in natural stone after an eclectic design by J. Ingenohl in memory of the banker and politician Abraham Carel Wertheim (1832-1897). The fountain, unveiled on 3 October 1898, is located in the southwestern part of Wertheimpark, which once formed part of the Hortus Medicus, but has served as a public pleasure garden since 1897.
Description
The fountain, freely positioned all around, has at ground level an octagonal basin with a raised rim. In the middle of this is an equally eight-sided, stepped platform, on which eight short granite columns carry a second round basin with eight spouts in the rim. The columns have a base and Doric capital in a different type of natural stone. The bases are extended on the inside to the centre point, where they meet together and serve as a base for a heavy, broad granite drum. This supports both the round basin and the column rising from it. This is an equally granite column with Corinthian capital and a decorated bronze vase as a crown. Halfway up the column is a decorative escutcheon placed with the portrait medallion of A.C. Wertheim in relief.
