Inleiding
Op de voormalige vestinggronden van bastion Utrecht te Ravenstein staat, temidden van enkele grote moestuinen en naast de R.K. begraafplaats, een klein neo-gotisch gedetailleerd gebouw dat vermoedelijk gefunctioneerd heeft als THEEHUISJE en OPSLAGPLAATS.
Het pand dateert uit omstreeks 1875.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags gepleisterde en gebroken-wit geschilderde pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt afgedekt door een zadeldak met oud Hollandse pannen. In de noordelijke muur is een vleugelpoort onder spitsbogige toog aangebracht. De paneeldeuren hebben een vorktracering. In de zuidelijke wand is op overeenkomstige wijze een spitsbogig venster aangebracht.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de transformatie van vestingwerken in groene recreatiegebieden en tuinen en heeft typologisch belang voor de ontwikkeling van het theehuis. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang als element van tuinarchitectuur en vanwege de sobere maar evenwichtige neo-gotische detaillering. Het heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de situering op oudere vestingwerken, verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de stad. Een dergelijk theehuisje is zeldzaam.

On the former fortification grounds of bastion Utrecht at Ravenstein stands, amidst several large vegetable gardens and next to the Roman Catholic cemetery, a small neo-gothic detailed building that is presumed to have functioned as a TEA HOUSE and STORAGE FACILITY.
The building dates from around 1875.
Description
The single-storey rendered building, painted in broken white, has a rectangular floor plan and is covered by a gabled roof with old Dutch tiles. In the northern wall a wing door under a pointed-arch opening has been installed. The panel doors have fork tracery. In the southern wall a pointed-arch window has been installed in a corresponding manner.
Valuation
The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an example of the transformation of fortification works into green recreational areas and gardens and has typological importance for the development of the tea house. It has architectural-historical value as an element of garden architecture and due to its restrained yet balanced neo-gothic detailing. It has ensemble value due to its location on earlier fortification works, connected with the development of the city. Such a tea house is rare.
