Omschrijving
Inleiding
Reeks BEDEVAARTKAPELLEN, aan de Handelseweg tussen Gemert en Handel. De kapellen zijn tot stand gekomen in opdracht van Van de Laarschot, rector van de Handelse kapel. Ze zijn gebouwd tussen 1888 en 1891 in neo-gotische stijl met beeldhouwwerk van A. Lenaerts. De kapellen zijn hersteld in 1992.
Omschrijving
Elke kapel heeft een bakstenen opbouw op vierkante plattegrond met een iets vooruitstekende plint en hardstenen geprofileerde waterlijst.
Bekroond door een hardstenen topgeveltje met kruis en zadeldak.
In een ondiepe spitsboognis, boven de waterlijst, is een kunststenen, wit geverfd reliëf aangebracht. Onder de waterlijst is op een hardstenen plaquette, verdiept in het metselwerk het symbool IHTS en het opschrift: GIJ ALLEN DIE VOORBIJ GAAT/OVER DEN WEG LET OP EN ZIET/OF ER EENE SMART IS GELIJK/MIJNE SMART. JER. THREN. 1.12/J.D. VAN DEN BERG. Daarboven is een afbeelding van Maria met zeven maal doorboord hart zichtbaar.
In het verlengde van de weg liggen achtereenvolgens nog zeven kapellen.
Kapel als voorgaande, met het opschrift: I/DE VOORZEGGING/VAN SIMEON. In de nis is een voorstelling van Simeon met het Christuskind, knielende figuren en Jozef en Maria in een kerkinterieur geplaatst.
Kapel, als voorgaande, met het opschrift: II/VLUCHT NAAR EGYPTE. In de nis is een voorstelling van Jozef met Maria en het Christuskind op een ezel, in een exotisch landschap, geplaatst.
Kapel, als voorgaande, met het opschrift: III/HET VERLIES VAN JEZUS/JAC.
RAYM.. In de nis een voorstelling van een aantal figuren in een tempel waarvan er één een boek heeft.
Kapel, als voorgaande, met het opschrift: IV/DE ONTMOETING VAN JEZUS/W.Pr.FZ. In de nis een voorstelling van Jezus met het kruis op zijn schouders ontmoet Maria.

Kapel, als voorgaande, met het opschrift VI/DE AFDOENING VAN HET KRUIS. In de nis is een voorstelling van twee figurten die het lichaam van Christus vasthouden en daarachter twee staande figuren aangebracht, tegen de achtergrond zijn kruis en ladder zichtbaar.
Kapel, als voorgaande, met het opschrift: VII/BEGRAFENIS VAN JEZUS. In de nis is een voorstelling van drie figuren met het lichaam van Christus in doeken tegen een achtergrond van de grot aangebracht.
Waardering
Het geheel is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als nadrukkelijke uitdrukking van het geestelijk leven, met name door de relatie met de eeuwenoude Mariabedevaart Handel en de wijze waarop deze relatie zich door de aanwezigheid van de bedeweg in het landschaop manifesteert. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde voor de geschiedenis van de kerkelijke beeldhouwkunst. De kapellenreeks is in samenhang met Handel als bedevaartplaats ensemble waarde. Het geheel is gaaf bewaard gebleven en is in zijn totaliteit uiterst zeldzaam.

Introduction
Series of PILGRIMAGE CHAPELS, on the Handelseweg between Gemert and Handel. The chapels were created on the orders of Van de Laarschot, rector of the Handel chapel. They were built between 1888 and 1891 in neo-Gothic style with sculpture by A. Lenaerts. The chapels were restored in 1992.
Description
Each chapel has a brick structure on a square ground plan with a slightly projecting plinth and a stone moulded drip moulding.
Crowned by a stone gabled roof with cross and gabled roof.
In a shallow pointed-arch niche, above the drip moulding, a stone-cast, white-painted relief has been placed. Below the drip moulding, on a stone plaque, recessed into the brickwork, is the symbol IHTS and the inscription: GIJ ALLEN DIE VOORBIJ GAAT/OVER DEN WEG LET OP EN ZIET/OF ER EENE SMART IS GELIJK/MIJNE SMART. JER. THREN. 1.12/J.D. VAN DEN BERG. Above this is an image of Mary with seven-times pierced heart visible.
Along the continuation of the road lie seven further chapels in succession.
Chapel as above, with the inscription: I/THE PROPHECY/OF SIMEON. In the niche is placed a representation of Simeon with the Christ Child, kneeling figures and Joseph and Mary in a church interior.
Chapel, as above, with the inscription: II/FLIGHT INTO EGYPT. In the niche is placed a representation of Joseph with Mary and the Christ Child on a donkey, in an exotic landscape.

Valuation
The whole is of general importance because of its cultural-historical value as a pronounced expression of spiritual life, in particular through its relationship with the centuries-old pilgrimage to Handel and the way in which this relationship manifests itself through the presence of the pilgrimage route in the landscape. It has architectural-historical value for the history of ecclesiastical sculpture. The series of chapels has ensemble value in conjunction with Handel as a pilgrimage site. The whole has been preserved intact and is in its totality extremely rare.
