Inleiding
Voormalige MACHINEHAL "Gebouw 320", onderdeel van het complex Hembrugterrein - Artillerie Inrichtingen Hembrug, daterend uit de periode 1936-1941. Het object behoort tot de bebouwing uit de derde fase van de fabriek en bevindt zich op het westelijke terreindeel bestemd voor de machinefabriek. Deze fabriek vervaardigde machines voor civiele dienst. Thans is het gebouw buiten gebruik. In dezelfde periode werd het Kantoor 317 als kleine voorbouw tegen deze hal aangebouwd.
Omschrijving
Dubbele machinehal, gebouwd als tweebeuk met grote overspanning en groot vrij vloeroppervlak op rechthoekige plattegrond onder twee flauwhellende zadeldaken met de nokken noord-zuid gericht. De westelijke hal is iets smaller uitgevoerd dan de oostelijke.
De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen gemetseld in halfsteens verband met een doorgaande rollaag onder de vensters. De kopgevel van de westelijke hal heeft een houten beschot. De dubbele hal is toegankelijk via dubbele schuifdeuren in de kopgevels. In de vier gevels zijn bijna vierkante stalen vensters aangebracht met kleine roedenverdeling. De ramen zijn uitneembaar. De geveltoppen en de bovenrand van de langsgevels zijn geheel met glas bezet. Op beide nokken bevindt zich over de gehele lengte een ijzeren noklantaarn met hellende glasvlakken.
De constructie betreft een staalskelet van zeven traveeën, bestaande uit open (vakwerk)kolommen die in de lengte gekoppeld zijn door hoge, dubbele vakwerkliggers. De liggers zijn uitgevoerd als V-liggers met verticale staven ter versteviging. Daarop staan over de hoogte van de lichtbeuk stijlen die de vakwerkspanten dragen. De spanten zijn driehoekige V-spanten, waarbij in het midden van de kap de wandstaven met secundaire verstevigingsstaven hoger zijn doorgezet naar de noklantaarn. Op de spanten zijn gordingen en een houten dakbeschot aangebracht.
Waardering
De voormalige machinehal "Gebouw 320" is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een fabrieksgebouw uit het tweede kwart van de 20ste eeuw, en wegens constructieve waarde vanwege de bijzondere staalconstructie. Former MACHINE HALL "Building 320", part of the Hembrugterrein complex - Hembrug Artillery Installations, dating from the period 1936-1941. The object belongs to the buildings from the third phase of the factory and is situated on the western part of the terrain designated for the machine factory. This factory manufactured machines for civil service. The building is now out of use. During the same period, Office 317 was built as a small extension against this hall.
Description
Double machine hall, built as a two-aisle structure with large span and large free floor area on a rectangular floor plan under two shallow-pitched gabled roofs with the ridges oriented north-south. The western hall is executed somewhat narrower than the eastern one.
The facades are constructed in brick laid in Flemish bond with a continuous course under the windows. The gable end of the western hall has wooden boarding. The double hall is accessible via double sliding doors in the gable ends. The four facades are fitted with almost square steel windows with small glazing bars. The frames are removable. The gable tops and the upper edge of the long facades are completely glazed. On both ridges runs a full-length iron ridge light with sloping glass surfaces.
The construction consists of a steel frame of seven bays, comprising open (lattice) columns that are coupled in length by tall, double lattice beams. The beams are executed as V-beams with vertical struts for reinforcement. On these stand, over the height of the clerestory, posts which support the lattice roof trusses. The trusses are triangular V-trusses, whereby in the middle of the roof the web struts with secondary reinforcement struts are carried higher towards the ridge light. Purlins and wooden roof boarding are fitted on the trusses.
Valuation
The former machine hall "Building 320" is of general importance for its cultural and architectural historical value as an example of a factory building from the second quarter of the 20th century, and for its constructive value due to the exceptional steel construction. The object is also of importance as a historical-functional component of the Hembrugterrein complex, built in the third phase of the factory.
