Omschrijving

Description

CATTLE SHED, consisting of a cow house, former milk reception area, former servants' quarters and fodder storage and a part converted into a dwelling. On the site there is also an older hayloft with four wooden roof trusses, which supports the appearance of the complex.

The front facade (east side) is the facade of the part converted into a dwelling in 1920. Before 1920 the ground floor was occupied by the adjoining horse stable, machinery room and boiler house. Currently the ground floor is whitewashed plaster with three by two regularly spaced T-windows with leaded glass fanlights. The windows are closed off by a whitewashed plaster band with black-finished corner and closing stones. On the division of the storey there is a drip moulding. Centrally on the first storey adjoining the drip moulding there are two four-paned casement windows placed in a whitewashed plaster field. The facade is finished with a roof overhang with a fascia board.

The left side facade of the part converted into a dwelling with a half-hipped gable is, like the other facades, partly plastered. The old window arrangement, of which building traces are still visible, was replaced in 1920 for the benefit of the dwelling. On the ground floor there are a number of window openings with on the first storey two regularly spaced casement windows. Under the half-hipped gable top there is a band of fair-faced brickwork from a former window. At the far left the left side facade continues over one storey belonging to the milk reception area, respectively cow house. The regular window arrangement of this is still intact. The filling has been largely replaced by rectangular single-pane windows in contrast to the segmental arch-shaped windows with iron glazing bars on the design drawing. Adjoining the front house is the milk reception area with a stoop, single door flanked on either side by six-pane windows including a three-pane casement window. The roof overhang provides coverage of the stoop. Respectively following are two segmental arch-shaped window openings, an entrance feature and two identical window openings.

The back facade of the cow house consists of three bays with centrally an entrance feature flanked on either side by segmental arch-shaped window openings with new filling. The entrance consists of a single battened door with side and fanlights. The facade ends in a very shallow gable.

The regular window arrangement of the right side facade of the cow house is, as in the left side facade, still original. From left to right there is one segmental arch-shaped window opening, a door opening and two identical window openings. The filling of these windows has, as on the left side facade, been changed to mostly rectangular single-pane windows, creating whitewashed arch soffits. The door opening has likewise received new filling. The left end of the cow house is formed by a closed-in covered space. At the far left is the left side facade of the dwelling where the old arrangement can still be partially found.

The interior of the cow house is almost entirely in an original state. The insides of the outer walls are tiled with white and blue tiles at the height of the wainscot. Remnants of the original whitewashed ceiling are still visible. The openings of the light shafts are still present, however the closure has been replaced by corrugated sheet gabled roofs. The shed consists of three aisles. In the middle aisle is the passage with on either side the standing places of the cows with their heads directed towards the central passage. The middle aisle is separated from the side aisle by plastered brick fodder troughs on which the steel posts are placed for the load-bearing structure. The arrangement of the cow house towards the front house is still original with a fully tiled milk reception space, during the renovation a tile floor was laid in the front house, painted wooden doors, marble chimneypieces and leaded glass windows in the fanlights on the ground floor.

Valuation

The cattle shed was built in 1905 as part of the complex 'Vinkenhoef' to the design of architect H.H. Kramer and at the commission of J.K. Knottenbelt. The building is of general importance because of its architectural historical value as a rare example of a cattle shed designed in eclectic style, of which the interior is also largely intact. The building is also of cultural historical significance as part of a model farm from the period 1880-1920. The cattle shed possesses great ensemble value in relation to the other components of the ensemble, whereby the older hayloft with wooden trusses supports the appearance of the complex.
