Omschrijving

Description

Belonging to the estate Nimmerdor is a COACHHOUSE situated at an open space, which is located at the beginning of the drive leading to the former main building of the estate. The coachhouse, designed in neo-gothic style, was built around 1850. In 1949 an engine repair business was established in the building. In 1953 a second internal renovation followed. In 1993 the building was extensively renovated and restored, whereby an office was established in the building. For this purpose not only the interior was extensively altered, but also multiple windows and roof dormers were newly added to the less representative west and north facades. These windows and roof dormers were, however, executed entirely in the style of the original coachhouse. The modifications from 1993 fall outside the protection.

The coachhouse has a more or less L-shaped floor plan, on which one storey is constructed with, at the south-west corner, a projecting tower element, consisting of two storeys with a flat roof.

The main mass is provided with a composite flattened hipped roof, enclosed by crenellations with corner columns, covered with Spanish tiles.

The facades, placed on a plinth, are white rendered with string courses at the height of the window sill and in the tower volume to mark the first and second storey. The tower is provided with corner pilasters, which on the first storey are executed as block pilasters. A moulded cornice beneath the crenellations forms the termination of the facades. The windows and doors all have a shaped fanlight, whereby the windows of the representative southern part are provided with a moulded rectangular frame with triangular panels in the spaces between window and frame. Shutters with a red-black colour flank the windows. Below the gutter line, a saw-tooth boarding executed in wood has been applied.

The front facade (south side) is formed by the vertical building mass of the tower projection with to its right three bays wide horizontal building mass, of which the middle bay projects slightly.

In the first storey there are three windows with to the left the entrance to the building, under a pointed arch-shaped archivolt. In the second storey of the tower there is a facade recess, in which beneath a shaped fanlight are located double casement doors, which provide access to a very shallow balcony with balusters and iron railwork. In the left and right upper corners of the facade plane are medallions with figurative content.

The middle projection in the horizontal building mass is crowned by a projecting and moulded gable. The semi-circular spandrel, in the gable, contains a relief with a figurative representation, consisting of saddles, reins and horse heads.

The rear facade is considerably altered as regards window distribution and is therefore of secondary importance. The main layout is however retained. This consists of the one-storey-high facade, of which approximately two-thirds on the left slightly projects in relation to one-third on the right.

The left side facade consists of the horizontal building mass with to its right the projecting tower element. The originally virtually blind facade of the main mass was provided with windows during the restoration/renovation in 1993. The facade of the tower is identical to that of the front.

The right side facade consists of a broad central section, with on the left a considerably projecting building part and on the right a narrow and barely projecting corner projection. The windows and doors in this facade have not been altered. The roof dormers have been added. The projection on the left consists of three bays. The wider left and right bays are provided with windows. The middle bay is blind on the first storey. The facade breaks through the roof line and continues into a roof dormer, in which a semi-circular window is located. At the height of the roof line a medallion with a figurative representation is placed in a rectangular frame. Directly below are two iron consoles, which by means of hinges can be placed at right angles to the facade for the purpose of an auxiliary balcony that serves for pitching hay. In front of this facade is a weighbridge in the paving, which is separately described.

The interior was completely modernized during the restoration/renovation of 1993 and falls outside the protection.

Valuation

The coachhouse, located at the drive of the estate Nimmerdor is of general importance by virtue of its architectural-historical value as an example of a coachhouse designed in eclectic style, in which English neo-gothic predominates. The coachhouse is of considerable ensemble value in relation to the other components of the estate.
