Inleiding
De sluizen zijn gebouwd in 1935/1936 in de stijl van het Functionalistisme. De open uitwateringssluizen bevinden zich in het stroomkanaal van de Gouwe tussen het gemaal Rijnland Mr. P.A. Pynacker Hordijk en de Hollandsche IJssel. De sluizen laten water uit naar de Hollandsche IJssel. Daarnaast keren de sluizen in gesloten toestand hoog buitenwater. De houten puntdeuren zijn vernieuwd in 1971.
Omschrijving
De gekoppelde sluizen bestaan uit twee identieke betonnen sluiskolken, die evenwijdig naast elkaar liggen. De sluishoofden zijn afgedekt door granieten dekplaten. De houten puntdeuren bestaan uit dubbele draaideuren. In geopende toestand bevinden de deuren zich in de deurkassen, die in de zijwanden van het sluishoofd zijn uitgespaard. In deze wanden bevinden zich tevens (aan de Hollandsche IJsselzijde) dubbele schotbalksponningen. Over de sluisdeuren zijn betonnen loopbruggen met ijzeren liggers geplaatst. Op deze bruggen bevinden zich ijzeren windwerken met windas en ijzeren kettingen. Via deze kettingen is het windwerk verbonden met de sluisdeuren. Op de sluishoofden bevinden zich twee enkele en (in het midden) één dubbele, ijzeren bedieningsinstallaties van de schotbalkdeuren. Aan de zijde van de Hollandsche IJssel bevinden zich ijzeren krooshekken, die vuil tegenhouden tijdens het inwateren. Langs de sluishoofden en loopbruggen zijn eenvoudige ijzeren hekken geplaatst.
Waardering
De sluizen, behorende bij het gemaal Rijnland Mr. P.A. Pynacker Hordijk, zijn van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde.
