RAADHUIS uit 1876 van de in 1942 opgeheven gemeente Katwijk en Klein Linden.
Omschrijving
Symmetrisch tweelaags blokvormig bouwwerk onder schilddak. De monumentale voorgevel telt drie traveeën. De middenrisaliet bevat de hoofdingang met erboven op de verdieping een balkon waarboven een trapachtige attiekbekroning, waarin in natuursteen het gemeentewapen is gehakt. Op de begane grond oorspronkelijk een politiepost met dienstwoning en op de verdieping de secretarie met de raadszaal.
In de architectuur van het huis is duidelijk onderscheid gemaakt tussen deze functies. De onderbouw heeft een lage en de bovenbouw een hoge verdiepingshoogte. Ter markering van deze twee bevindt zich in de gevel een hardstenen cordonlijst. Al de muuropeningen zijn getoogd. Op de verdieping zijn ze voorzien van zesruits schuifvensters, in de voorgevel met geprofileerde hardstenen omlijstingen en onder de dorpels twee voluutvormige kraagstenen, op de begane grond voorzien van vierruits schuifvensters zonder omlijstingen.
De voorgevel heeft een kroonlijst met een boogfries in stucwerk, ter plaatse van de risaliet voorzien van vijf voluutvormige consoles. De voorgevel wordt begrensd door geblokte hoekpilasters. Het metselwerk bestaat uit handvorm baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband. Het balkonhek is van smeed- en gietijzerwerk. De indeling van het raadhuis is nauwelijks gewijzigd. Opvallend is de houten trap ter breedte van de hal. In de kelder met het tongewelf bevond zich vermoedelijk het cachot.
Waardering
Het raadhuis met politiepost en dienstwoning is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een bestuurlijke en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van gebouwen voor het bestuur in de late negentiende eeuw en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het raadhuis. Symmetrical two-storey block-shaped structure with a hipped roof. The monumental front facade consists of three bays. The central risalit contains the main entrance with a balcony above it on the upper storey, above which a step-like attic crown, in which the municipal coat of arms is carved in natural stone. On the ground floor originally a police post with a service dwelling and on the upper storey the secretariat with the council chamber.
Clear distinction is made in the architecture of the building between these functions. The lower section has a lower storey height and the upper section a higher storey height. To mark the division between these, there is a hard stone cornice band in the facade. All wall openings are arched. On the upper storey they are fitted with six-pane sash windows, in the front facade with moulded hard stone surrounds and beneath the sills two scroll-shaped corbels, on the ground floor fitted with four-pane sash windows without surrounds.
The front facade has a cornice with an arch frieze in stucco, at the location of the risalit fitted with five scroll-shaped consoles. The front facade is bounded by blocked corner pilasters. The masonry consists of handmade brick laid in stretcher bond. The balcony railing is of wrought and cast ironwork. The layout of the town hall has scarcely been altered. Notable is the wooden staircase spanning the width of the hall. In the cellar with barrel vault was presumably the cachot.
