Inleiding.
WOONHUIS in Neo-renaissancestijl. Gebouwd omstreeks 1890 in opdracht van de familie Mommersteeg.
Omschrijving.
Bakstenen woonhuis op een rechthoekige plattegrond met diverse kleine uitbouwen. Het huis heeft een mansardedak, gedekt met leien. De uitbouwen hebben afzonderlijke daken.
Het huis is één laag hoog en heeft een iets uitstekende plint die in kleur afsteekt ten opzichte van de gevels. De zwarte strengperssteen van de plint is ook gebruikt voor speklagen in het metselwerk. De speklagen zijn versierd met natuurstenen diamantkoppen. Onder de goot loopt een kroonlijst met baksteenreliëf. Daar waar de gevel hoger opgetrokken is loopt de gootlijst door.
De rechterhoek (aan de oostzijde) is voorzien van een tweede laag met torenachtige opbouw, bekroond door een spits. Links heeft de voorgevel een topgeveltje. Hierin bevindt zich een deur met Frans balkon en smeedijzeren hekje. De ramen van de begane grond zijn getoogd, de bovenlichten zijn gevuld met glas-in-lood. Boven de ramen is de segmentboog uitgevoerd in geprofileerde steen met een natuurstenen sluitsteen.
De ingang is in de rechterzijgevel gesitueerd, in een portiek. Daarachter een erker met afgeschuinde zijden.
In de achtergevel ter plekke van het trappenhuis een opbouw met een groot hoog rondboograam. Aan de linkerkant heeft het huis een aanbouw, uitgevoerd in ijsselsteen, op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak, haaks op de straat. De voorgevel is in hetzelfde materiaal als de voorgevel van het huis uitgevoerd. Het zadeldak is gedekt met muldenpannen en wordt bekroond door een palmet. In de linkerzijgevel bevindt zich een zesruitsraam met luiken.
In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling bewaard gebleven. Delen van de inrichting zijn hersteld.
In de gang (die evenwijdig aan de straat loopt) ligt een vloer van marmeren tegels, de stucplafonds zijn voorzien van ornamenten. In het midden ervan, naar de achterkant van het huis een houten trap met bewerkte trappaal. De paneeldeuren naar de kamers zijn bewaard gebleven. Aan de straatzijde liggen twee kamers, van elkaar gescheiden door een wand opgebouwd uit paneeldeuren. In de kamers stucplafonds, in één ervan is de marmeren schouw bewaard gebleven.
In de keuken zijn zeshoekige cementtegels met geometrisch motief. Tegen de wanden blauw-witte tegels in dambord patroon. In de kelder plavuizen en gepleisterde troggewelfjes.
Waardering.
Het huis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde wegens materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Description.
Brick residential building on a rectangular plan with various small extensions. The house has a mansard roof, covered with slate. The extensions have separate roofs.
The house is one storey high and has a slightly projecting plinth that contrasts in colour with the facades. The black pressed brick of the plinth is also used for plinth courses in the brickwork. The plinth courses are decorated with natural stone diamond bosses. Below the gutter runs a cornice with brick relief. Where the facade rises higher the gutter moulding runs through.
The right corner (on the east side) is provided with a second storey with tower-like structure, crowned by a spire. On the left the front facade has a small gable. In it is located a door with French balcony and wrought-iron railing. The windows of the ground floor are arched, the fanlights are filled with leaded glass. Above the windows the segmental arch is executed in profiled stone with a natural stone keystone.
The entrance is situated in the right side facade, in a porch. Behind it a bay window with bevelled sides.
In the rear facade at the location of the stairwell an extension with a large tall round-arch window. On the left the house has an annex, executed in IJssel brick, on a rectangular plan under a gabled roof, perpendicular to the street. The front facade is executed in the same material as the front facade of the house. The gabled roof is covered with curved pantiles and is crowned by a palmette. In the left side facade is a six-light window with shutters.
In the interior the original layout has been preserved. Parts of the fixtures have been restored.
In the hallway (which runs parallel to the street) is a floor of marble tiles, the stucco ceilings are provided with ornaments. In the centre of it, towards the back of the house, a wooden staircase with worked newel post. The panelled doors to the rooms have been preserved. On the street side are two rooms, separated from each other by a wall built up of panelled doors. In the rooms stucco ceilings, in one of them the marble fireplace has been preserved.
In the kitchen are hexagonal cement tiles with geometric motif. Against the walls blue-and-white tiles in checkerboard pattern. In the cellar paving stones and plastered barrel-vault ceilings.
Valuation.
The house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an expression of a socio-economic and typological development. It has architectural-historical value because of the use of materials and ornamentation. It has been preserved in good condition.
