Inleiding.
WOONHUIS opgetrokken in 1908 naar ontwerp van F.B. Sturm in Neo-Renaissancestijl als eigen woonhuis. Het pand ligt aan de linkerzijde vrij van de belendingen.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags woonhuis van twee bouwlagen onder met leien en kruispannen gedekt schilddak. De voorgevel telt drie traveeën, opgetrokken uit rodeverblendsteen met natuurstenen speklagen en stucornament. De twee linker vakken hebben boven een hardstenen plint met lijst twee onder segmentbogen geplaatste tweedelige schuiframen. In de boog stucornament met linten, mascarons en leeuwenkopjes. Op de verdieping twee T-ramen onder rondboog met vaas en linten. Onder de op consoles overstekende kroonlijst een fries met arabesken en twee putti. In het dakvlak een dakkapel met overhoekse muts. In de rechter travee de entree, bestaande uit een in een portiek geplaatste, getoogde dubbele geverniste paneeldeur met bovenlicht, koperen grepen en smeedijzeren sierrooster. In het bovenlicht glas-in-lood met gestileerde siermotieven. Boven de deur een hardstenen erker met samengesteld openslaand raam en smalle zijramen. De erker heeft consoles met saterkoppen en voluten met leeuwenkoppen, fakkels en bloemranken. Borstwerking met knoppen en diamantkoppen. Hoekpilasters met verdiepte velden en lijstkapitelen. Ter hoogte van de tweede verdieping wordt de travee afgesloten met een trapgevel met overhoekse bekroning. Balkon met hardstenen balustrade en siervazen. Boven de balkondeur een boogveld met jaartal 1908.
De achtergevel is geblokt gepleisterd en heeft enkele getoogde T-ramen en eenvoudige steekankers. Tegen de gevel een haakse aanbouw van twee lagen onder plat dak. Deze aanbouw bevat keuken en dienstruimten en heeft T- ramen. Hal met trapopgang en aansluitende gang naar het achterhuis. Terrazzovloer met marmermozaïek en bloemfiguren. Geleding met pilasters, paneeldeuren met bekronende lijsten. Rechte steektrap met baluster in kandelabervorm. In de kamers paneeldeuren met bekronende lijsten en origineel beslag en dubbele schuifdeuren met facetgeslepen glas-in-loodramen. In de voorkamer een stucplafond met bloem- en bladornament en een schoorsteenmantel van zwart en rood marmer.
Waardering.
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de stad en als specimen van de typologische ontwikkeling van het stadshuis kort na 1900. Het is van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de compositie van de gevel, de verzorgde vormgeving en het rijke materiaalgebruik. The front gable comprises three bays, constructed from red-bond brickwork with natural stone speckle courses and stucco ornament. The two left sections have above a hardstone plinth with moulding two two-part sash windows placed under segmental arches. In the arch stucco ornament with ribbons, mascarons and lion's heads. On the upper storey two T-windows under round arch with vase and ribbons. Below the cornice projecting on consoles a frieze with arabesques and two putti. In the roof plane a roof dormer with diagonal roof. In the right bay the entrance, consisting of an arched double glazed panel door with fanlight placed in a porch, copper handles and wrought-iron ornamental grille. In the fanlight leaded glass with stylised ornamental motifs. Above the door a hardstone oriel with composite casement window and narrow side windows. The oriel has consoles with satyr heads and volutes with lion's heads, torches and flower garlands. Balustrade with studs and diamond points. Corner pilasters with recessed fields and moulded capitals. At the height of the second storey the bay is closed with a stepped gable with diagonal crowning. Balcony with hardstone balustrade and ornamental vases. Above the balcony door a spandrel with the date 1908.
The rear gable is rusticated plaster and has some arched T-windows and simple stone anchors. Against the gable a right-angled extension of two storeys under a flat roof. This extension contains kitchen and service rooms and has T-windows. Hall with staircase and adjoining passage to the rear house. Terrazzo floor with marble mosaic and flower figures. Division with pilasters, panel doors with crowning mouldings. Straight dog-leg stair with candelabrum-shaped baluster. In the rooms panel doors with crowning mouldings and original ironwork and double sliding doors with faceted leaded glass windows. In the front room a stucco ceiling with flower and leaf ornament and a fireplace mantel of black and red marble.
Valuation.
The dwelling house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of the city and as a specimen of the typological development of the townhouse shortly after 1900. It is of architectural-historical importance because of the composition of the gable, the careful design and the rich use of materials. It is also of importance as an example of the work of architect Sturm, in particular because it was realised as his own residence and thus eminently reflects the architect's design principles. It has been preserved intact.
