Inleiding.
SCHOOL gebouwd in 1913-14 naar ontwerp van J. van Groenendaal met kenmerken van de Neo-Renaissance. De langgerekte school ligt ver van de rooilijn, op de hoek van de Schoolstraat met de Doeldreef.
Omschrijving.
De school is een éénlaags langgerekt bakstenen gebouw op rechthoekige plattegrond onder schilddak. In de middenrisaliet met trapgevel bevindt zich een brede deur. Daarboven een hoog rondboog bovenlicht met kleine roedenverdeling. In de topgevel is een band aangebracht waarop smalle rondboogvormige blindnissen staan, deze zijn gevuld met metselmozaïek. De gevel wordt geleed door lisenen, daartussen staan telkens drie (aan het uiteinde twee) ramen onder een korfboog. De ramen hebben een kruiskozijn, daarbinnen kleine roedenverdeling. De boogvelden zijn gevuld met telkens variërend metselmozaïek.
De linkerzijgevel heeft twee ramen als in de voorgevel en een smalle deur in een ondiep portiek met traptreden. In het interieur van de school is de oorspronkelijke indeling van de klaslokalen aan een gang, evenals elementen uit de inrichting bewaard gebleven. Voorbeelden van dit laatste zijn onder andere de tegelvloer met meandermotief in de gang, paneeldeuren en inbouwkastjes in de voormalige klaslokalen en schuifdeuren in geprofileerde omlijsting tussen twee klaslokalen.
Waardering.
Het schoolgebouw is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van de sociale ontwikkeling, het representeert de ontwikkeling van het katholiek onderwijs op het platteland. The school is a single-storey elongated brick building on a rectangular floor plan with a hipped roof. In the central risalit with a stepped gable is located a wide door. Above it is a high round-arch fanlight with fine glazing bars. In the stepped gable is a band on which narrow round-arch blind niches are placed, these are filled with brick mosaic. The facade is articulated by pilasters, between which are regularly three (at the end two) windows beneath a basket arch. The windows have a cross window, within which fine glazing bars are fitted. The arch fields are filled with varying brick mosaic.
The left side facade has two windows as in the front facade and a narrow door in a shallow portico with steps. In the interior of the school the original layout of the classrooms along a corridor is preserved, as well as elements of the fittings. Examples of the latter include the floor tiles with meander motif in the corridor, panelled doors and built-in cupboards in the former classrooms and sliding doors in moulded surrounds between two classrooms.
Valuation.
The school building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an expression of social development; it represents the development of Catholic education in rural areas. It has architectural-historical values due to the ornamentation and is of importance as a representative of the work of the architect. It has been preserved in good condition.
