Inleiding.
MUUR behorend bij het klooster Mariadal, gebouwd voor de orde van de Franciscanessen Penitenten Recollectinnen naar ontwerp van J.Th.J Cuypers en F.B. Sturm in 1934 in Traditionalistische stijl.
Omschrijving
Bakstenen ommuring van de tuin van het kloostercomplex met aan de bovenkant een ezelsrug, aan de straatzijde gesteund door steunberen met bakstenen afzaten. Aan de zijde van de Burgemeester Prinssensingel wordt de muur op enkele plekken onderbroken. Ongeveer halverwege is een spitsboog-doorgang, trapsgewijs verspringend en aan bovenzijde afgedekt met romaanse pannen geplaatst. Het poortgedeelte is dichtgemetseld tot op de hoogte van de muur. Links van deze doorgang steekt de achterkant van een halfronde kapel met koepel, gedekt met bitumen door de muur. Aan de tuinkant voorzien van een gebogen topgevel. Een driezijdig gesloten kapel met topgevel onder een omlopend dak met romaanse pannen en een piron is halverwege de muur aan de rechterkant van doorgang geplaatst. Rondboogramen in afgeschuinde zijden zijn dichtgemetseld. Aan de straatkant is een polychroom reliëf met voorstelling van Maria in gemetseld.
Waardering.
De muur is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk het toegenomen zelfbewustzijn van de katholieke congregaties in het Interbellum. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarden wegens materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek en neemt een bijzondere plaats in in het oeuvre van de architecten Cuypers en Sturm. Het geheel is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Description
Brick wall enclosing the garden of the convent complex with a saddle-back ridge on the top, supported on the street side by buttresses with brick offsets. On the side of Burgemeester Prinssensingel the wall is interrupted at several points. Approximately halfway is a pointed-arch passage, stepping back in stages and covered at the top with Romanesque tiles. The gateway section is bricked in up to the height of the wall. To the left of this passage the rear of a semicircular chapel with dome, covered with bitumen, projects through the wall. On the garden side it has a curved stepped gable. A three-sided enclosed chapel with a stepped gable beneath a surrounding roof with Romanesque tiles and a ridge finial is positioned halfway along the wall to the right of the passage. Round-arch windows in bevelled side walls have been bricked in. On the street side is a polychrome relief depicting Mary in brickwork.
Valuation.
The wall is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical importance as a special expression of a spiritual development, namely the increased self-awareness of Catholic congregations in the Interbellum period. It has architectural-historical values due to use of materials and ornamentation and occupies a special place in the oeuvre of architects Cuypers and Sturm. The whole has been preserved in good condition.
