Inleiding.
Half vrijstaand HERENHUIS, gebouwd rond 1875 in opdracht van leerfabrikant Aarts in een Eclectische stijl. Achter het huis een uitbreiding uit circa 1990, twee lagen hoog onder een plat dak. Dit gedeelte wordt niet beschermd.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags bakstenen woonhuis onder een afgeplat schilddak. Het dak is gedekt met kruispannen. De voorgevel telt vier traveeën, heeft een middenrisaliet en wordt beëindigd door hoeklisenen. De gevel is voorzien van een natuurstenen plint en gepleisterde speklagen en cordonlijsten.
De gevel wordt bekroond door een kroonlijst met grote consoles ter ondersteuning van de gootlijst. Op de consoles bevinden zich reliëfs van mannen- vrouwen- en leeuwenkopjes. Voor de deur liggen enkele hardstenen traptreden. De deur zelf heeft een groot gietijzeren rooster, een bovenlicht met glas-in-lood en een geprofileerde lijst. De schuiframen op de begane grond zijn voorzien van geprofileerde lijsten aan de bovenkant. De bovenlichten hebben glas-in-lood. Op de verdieping worden alle schuiframen bekroond door een gebroken fronton. Ook hier zijn de bovenlichten van de ramen gevuld met glas-in-lood. In het midden van het dakvlak bevindt zich een dakkapel met wangen en een fronton.
De linkerzijgevel is nagenoeg blind en heeft een gepleisterde plint. Achteraan bevindt zich een smalle deur. Naast het pand een smal pad, van de straat gescheiden door een smeedijzeren poortje. In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling bewaard gebleven. De hoge, centraal gelegen gang, is voorzien van stucplafonds met profielen. Aan de rechterkant bevindt zich het trappenhuis met een trap tot op de zolder. Tegenover de trap is in de gang een rondboognis in de wand aangebracht. In het trappenhuis is tegen de wand een medaillon met gestuct engeltje aangebracht. Achter de keuken, links van de gang, ligt de bijkeuken met cementtegels met sterpatronen. Op de verdieping een kamer-en-suite met schuifdeuren en marmeren schouw.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de Langstraat en is van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het fabraikantenwoonhuis. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde wegens detaillering en materiaalgebruik, die hier ingezet worden voor de uitdrukking van het zelfbewustzijn van de leerfabrikanten. Two-storey brick residence under a mansard roof. The roof is covered with crossed tiles. The front facade comprises four bays, has a central projection and is terminated by corner pilasters. The gable is provided with a natural stone plinth and rendered decorative courses and cornice lines.
The gable is crowned by a cornice with large consoles supporting the gutter line. On the consoles are reliefs of male heads, female heads and lion heads. In front of the door lie several sandstone steps. The door itself has a large cast-iron grille, a fanlight with stained glass and a moulded surround. The sash windows on the ground floor are provided with moulded surrounds at the top. The fanlights have stained glass. On the upper storey all sash windows are crowned by a broken pediment. Here too the fanlights of the windows are filled with stained glass. In the middle of the roof plane is a roof dormer with cheeks and a pediment.
The left side gable is nearly blank and has a rendered plinth. At the rear is a narrow door. Next to the building a narrow path, separated from the street by a wrought-iron gate. In the interior the original layout has been preserved. The tall, centrally located corridor is provided with stucco ceilings with mouldings. On the right side is the stairwell with a staircase leading up to the attic. Opposite the staircase in the corridor is a round-arched recess set in the wall. In the stairwell against the wall is a medallion with a stuccoed cherub. Behind the kitchen, to the left of the corridor, lies the scullery with cement tiles with star patterns. On the upper storey a room-en-suite with sliding doors and marble fireplace.

The building is of general importance. It is of cultural-historical importance as an expression of the socio-economic development of the Langstraat and is important as an example of the typological development of the manufacturers' residence.
