Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
TANNERY from 1866. Extended at the rear in 1908. The tannery is constructed in an Artisanal-Traditional building style, the extension is executed in timber-framing and has a sober design.
Description.
Composite industrial building of which the oldest part dates from 1866 according to a facade stone ("P.v.d.A. 1866"). This section is a traditional three-storey tannery building with wet-house and drying house. The gabled roof has an overhang and is covered with old Dutch tiles. The tannery consists of two parts, one of which is constructed slightly higher. The top layer of the facade has timber boarding. On the long facade at ground floor level there is a gate and passage to the business section behind it. Above it an iron I-profile. The arched small windows in the brick parts of the facade have metal window frames with small glazing bars. Against the facade a small extension under a mono-pitched roof, later extended (in place of the chimney demolished a few years ago) to the path. The right side facade, bordering the path, has three arched windows on the ground floor, fitted with metal window frames with glazing bars. Higher up there are progressively smaller arched small windows. In the middle of this facade shutters have been installed on the floors. The left side facade has a few small arched windows.
In 1908 the business was extended with a timber-framed hall, constructed with iron profiles, filled with brick. This extension stands at right angles to the tannery and is one storey high on a rectangular ground plan under a gently sloping gabled roof with skylight ridge. Between the old tannery and this hall stands a two-storey rectangular building mass under a flat roof. In the facades of this building mass there is a large number of windows with metal window frames. The rear section consists of a recently constructed hall, this falls outside the protection.
Valuation.
The tannery building is of general interest. It is of cultural-historical importance as an expression of the socio-economic and typological development of the tanning industry in the Langstraat. It has architectural-historical importance for the history of building technology, due to the application of various forms and construction types, depending on the functions of the components. It has ensemble value as an essential component of a larger whole. The complex is also important due to its integrity and as an example of a relatively small-scale tannery complex it has become rare.
