The register's description

Inleiding.

Introduction.

The TOWNHOUSE was built in 1933 in Expressionist style commissioned by C. Francken. The corner building is located in the northern ring road area.

Description.

The two- to three-storey building has a rectangular plan and a bent compound hipped roof with black Romanesque roof tiles. The facades are built of machine-made brick with plinth and door frame in a purple-brown colour, above it bright yellow. The main body of the front facade on Faurestraat consists of three sections with differently accentuated roof lines and smoothly executed corner solutions. To the left of this on Faurestraat, the garden is screened by a brick wall and a single-storey extension under a flat roof with a band window that turns the corner. The two-storey left section has its own hipped roof, with a four-pane window on the ground floor and just below the projecting cornice a six-pane leaded-glass window, subdivided by three decorative bands that turn the corner. On the other side three small leaded-glass windows one above the other; the cornice ends against a substantial chimney built up there. The middle section is the largest and the asymmetrical brickwork with projecting decorative brickwork breaks through the cornices on both sides. On the left a small two-light window, on the right a varnished round-arched panelled door in a shallow porch. The door has a pointed-arch-shaped brick surround. On the storey a series of seven tall-format windows, which are fitted with lead strips like the other windows. In the steep hipped roof a two-light roof dormer under a flat roof has been placed. The right section of the front facade steps back slightly. On the ground floor three windows, turning the corner. Above this a projecting semicircular balcony and iron balustrade. Above the balcony door a concrete decorative overhang. Around the corner a small window. Above the corner overhang directly the roof, higher than the left part of the front facade. The facade on the side of Van Overstratenlaan has, beside the above-mentioned balcony section, a rectangular oriel window with projecting moulding and recessed fanlight. Above this a blind balcony with three-part window. Finally, a substantial breastwork with a three-part window under a flat roof as a roof dormer. The facade is visually separated from the adjacent neighbouring building by a tall asymmetrical chimney with decorative blocks.
