Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
The DWELLING was built in 1896-1897 by architect C.P. van Genk in Neo-renaissance style for one of his sisters.
Description.
The two-storey corner building with basement is constructed of machine-made brick with course headers and has a composite bent hipped roof covered with artificial slate. This roof covering is also found on the blunt octagonal corner tower. The plinth is of hardstone. The side at Stationsstraat has four bays. The segmental arch sash windows are encompassed and connected by a moulded list with volute-shaped keystones. Cassettes mark the breast wall on ground floor and first floor. The entrance bay projects forward. The panelled door is in a segmental arch portico above which is a balcony on heavy volute consoles. The moulded cornice on blocks with diamond heads is extended at this bay with volute consoles. A roof dormer with triangular pediment forms the final crowning. The windows in the tower-like corner projection are identical to the others; on the roof are two roof dormers under pointed gabled roof with round arch window. The truncated roof is furnished with a flat and ornamental wrought-iron crowning. On the side of Bredaseweg next to the projection is the recessed entrance of house number 2. The segmental arch door dates from circa 1980. Above this are two sober segmental arch stolp windows. In the wide bay adjoining are windows with ornamental framing. The building is extended on the Bredaseweg side with a sober two-storey section under flat roof with narrow segmental arch windows. The back courtyard is closed off by a brick wall with ornamental wrought-work, access via a segmental arch gate. On the site stand two single-storey brick sheds under flat roof from the building period.
Valuation.
The dwelling is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a character-defining component of the urban expansion from the last quarter of the 19th century and the relationship it has to the development and expansion of the city, it is of importance for the development of the typology of the urban dwelling in the 19th century. The building has architectural-historical value because of its balanced and careful composition and is of importance for the work of architect Van Genk. It is of particular significance for the appearance of the city and is also of importance because of the completeness of its exterior. Because the designs of the buildings on Stationsstraat remained in one hand, there is an architectural-historical rarity.
