Inleiding.
Het WOONHUIS is gebouwd in Eclectische stijl in 1879 naar ontwerp van C.P. van Genk, in opdracht van fabrikant A. Asselbergs. Het staat op de hoek van de Stationsstraat en de Wassenaarstraat. Het pand springt ten opzichte van de overige huizen naar voren in de rooilijn. Bij verbouwingen is de aankleding van het interieur gewijzigd. Het pand is in opzet gelijk aan het andere hoekpand op nummer 42-42A-44.
Omschrijving.
Het blokvormige tweeëneenhalflaagse pand heeft afgeschuinde hoektraveeën en bezit een samengesteld schilddak gedekt met zwarte kruispannen. De gepleisterde gevels worden geleed door profiellijsten en korintische pilasters, afwisselend tussen één en twee traveeën. Op de begane grond bevinden zich schuifvensters ter breedte van etalagevensters. De T-vensters op de verdieping hebben een gepleisterde stucomlijsting met kuif en ronde schouders. Tussen de afgeschuinde hoektraveeën bevinden zich aan de zijde van de Stationsstraat vijf traveeën met in het midden en daarnaast een rond 1970 vernieuwde deur. Ook op de hoek van beide straten is een deur geplaatst. Aan de kant van de Wassenaarstraat is eveneens een centraal geplaatste voordeur. De middelste en de hoektraveeën springen iets in, hetgeen zichtbaar wordt gemaakt in de kroonlijst, met tweeruits mezzaninoraampjes.
Waardering.
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als beeldbepalend onderdeel van de stadsuitleg uit het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw en de relatie die het heeft tot de ontwikkeling en uitbreiding van de stad, het is van belang voor de ontwikkeling van de typologie van het stedelijk woonhuis in de 19de eeuw.
