Inleiding.
VIJF WOONHUIZEN rond 1937 in Traditionalistische vormen gebouwd voor de Goirlese kastelein H. Smits naar ontwerp van architect J. Bedaux. Het ontwerp bestaat uit zeven op één rij aaneengesloten huizen: vier kleine en drie grote huizen. De rechtse twee in het ontwerp zijn niet gebouwd. Het verschil in grootte van de huizen wordt bepaald door de tweede bouwlaag. Deze is bij de kleine huizen minder hoog dan bij het ene gebouwde grote huis. Omschrijving.
De huizen, die tweelaags zijn, hebben een zadeldak met een geknikte dakvoet tussen tuitgevels. Vier van de huizen zijn gedekt met rode opnieuw verbeterde Hollandse pannen, een heeft blauwe pannen. Alle huizen zijn twee traveeën breed: bestaande uit een voordeur- en een raamtravee op de begane grond en twee raamtraveeën op de verdieping. Tufsteen is toegepast in de aanzet- en scharnierstenen van de rondboogmuuropening van de garagedeuren, in de deelzuil tussen de ramen op de verdieping en in de geornamenteerde klauwstukken van de Vlaamse kapel. Huis no. 116 heeft een dakkapel met oren onder een lessenaarsdakje met houten windveren.

De vijf woonhuizen zijn van algemeen belang. Ze zijn van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van midden-Brabant en hebben betekenis voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het rijtjeshuis. FIVE DWELLINGS built around 1937 in Traditionalist forms for Goirle innkeeper H. Smits after a design by architect J. Bedaux.
