Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Iets ten zuiden van de spoorlijn Breda-Tilburg en het station van Rijen werd in 1907-1908 op de hoek van de Julianastraat en de Parallelweg een WONING voor de leerhandelaar P. van Rooij gebouwd in vormen van de Overgangsarchitectuur. Achter de woning bevond zich oorspronkelijk een ledermagazijn.
Omschrijving.
Uit verschillende bouwvolumes samengesteld hoekpand. De hoofdmassa wordt gevormd door de witgepleisterde hoekbebouwing. De wit gepleisterde hoofdmassa bestaat uit een tweelaags hoekbebouwing op vierkante grondslag, aan de beide straatzijden overgaande in een rechthoekig éénlaags gedeelte. Een drie-achtste gesloten erker met recht gesloten vensters met T-ramen en houten rolluiken is overhoeks geplaatst. Op de erker bevindt zich een balkon met tussen de penanten een houten, geometrische, sierborstwering. De grote balkondeur en -ramen zijn als een geheel behandeld. Boven de tweede bouwlaag een schijnterras met forse penanten met balusters. Aan de zijde van de Parallelweg is één van de penanten (wellicht een schoorsteen) behandeld als een opengewerkt arkeltorentje. Plat dak met steile dakschilden gedekt met kruispannen. Aan de zijde van de Julianastraat, rechts van de erker, bevindt zich een met geometrische motieven bewerkte paneeldeur met een, aan de onderzijde, in reliëf bewerkte luifel. Boven de ingang bevindt zich een halve schijntrapgevel. Aan de rechterkant van deze ingang bevindt zich een l-vormig omlopend gedeelte onder een plat dak met schilden gedekt met kruispannen.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang.
Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaaleconomische en typologische ontwikkeling van de kleinschalige leerhandel. Het pand heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de bijzondere ornamentiek van met name de deur en de luifel.
Het pand heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met het nabijgelegen spoor.

Slightly south of the Breda-Tilburg railway line and Rijen station, a DWELLING for the leather merchant P. van Rooij was built in 1907-1908 on the corner of Julianastraat and Parallelweg in forms of Transition architecture. Behind the dwelling there was originally a leather warehouse.
Description.
Corner building composed of different building volumes. The main mass is formed by the whitewashed corner building. The whitewashed main mass consists of a two-storey corner building on a square ground plan, passing into a rectangular single-storey section on both street sides. A three-eighths bay enclosed corner turret with square-headed windows with T-shaped glazing bars and wooden roller shutters is placed diagonally. On the corner turret there is a balcony with between the pilasters a wooden, geometric, decorative breastwork. The large balcony door and windows are treated as one whole. Above the second storey a false terrace with substantial pilasters with balusters. On the side of the Parallelweg one of the pilasters (possibly a chimney stack) is treated as an openwork turret. Flat roof with steep roof slopes covered with interlocking tiles. On the side of Julianastraat, to the right of the corner turret, there is a panelled door worked with geometric motifs with a, at the underside, relief worked awning. Above the entrance there is a half false stepped gable. On the right side of this entrance there is an L-shaped wrapping section beneath a flat roof with roof slopes covered with interlocking tiles.
Valuation.
The building is of general importance.
The building has cultural-historical value as a special expression of the socio-economic and typological development of small-scale leather trading. The building has architectural-historical value because of the special ornamentation of in particular the door and the awning.
