The register's description

Kapelstraat 3 onderdeel II de pastorie Gilze-Rijen (Molenschot)

Inleiding.

Kapelstraat 3 component II the parsonage Gilze-Rijen (Molenschot)

Introduction.

The PARSONAGE was built in 1879 in sober Eclectic style. The roof dormer possibly dates from circa 1900-1910. During the Second World War part of the stucco was damaged, which was subsequently restored. Internally there have been some alterations. In 1993 the windows were replaced with examples that could absorb the noise nuisance from the nearby air force base.

Description.

The two-storey PARSONAGE has a rectangular ground plan. The front facade has five bays; on the hipped roof lie improved Dutch roof tiles.

The facades are constructed of machine-made brick. The six-pane sash windows have sandstone sills and window lintels. Horizontally the facade is articulated by a profiled stringcourse and a frieze below the gutter. Centrally there is a portico. This is provided with ashlar stones and a keystone; in the inner corners there are profiled artificial stone corbels. In the portico there is a panelled door with iron decorative grille.

The plastered frieze with panels is broken in the middle by a brick dormer with stepped gable. The frieze is closed on either side of the dormer by a projecting edge on scroll corbels. Between these there is a nameplate on which "St. Anna 1879" is written. The dormer window is a two-pane casement with a semi-circular fanlight with decorative glazing bars. The stepped gable is provided with a curled wrought-iron anchor and a slightly curved artificial stone crown on the apex. The right side facade has on the ground floor and on the upper floor a new window from circa 1960. The left side facade is blank. Both the side and rear facades have, in place of a plastered frieze, a dentil moulding below the gutter and a projecting brick edge. The rear facade has on the ground floor a renewed panelled door and a large renewed window. On the storey there are sash windows. On the left rear side there is a single-storey rectangular outbuilding under a hipped roof with black traditional Dutch roof tiles, serving as storage space and scullery. The facades of this consist of machine-made brick and are provided with straight wall anchors.

The space has two renewed panelled doors, the left one with divided fanlight. The large three-part window on the right dates from circa 1960. A long corridor runs through the building from the front door. This corridor is provided with polychrome cement tiles with a meander border on the sides and a geometric pattern in blue, brown, black and cream. Right front there is a consultation room, behind it a side corridor with access to the kitchen on the left and on the right the steep stairs to the upper floor. On the left are the doors to the front and back rooms. These rooms are provided with a stucco ceiling.

The front garden of the parsonage is enclosed with an iron fence with double arrow-point row.

Valuation.

The parsonage is of general importance.

The parsonage has cultural-historical value as an example of small-scale development of ecclesiastical architecture in a small village centre. The building has architectural-historical value because of its style. The building is important because of the relative intactness of the interior and exterior and in relation to the structural and visual intactness of the village surroundings.
