Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The CHURCH of H. Remigius was built between 1899 and 1901 in Neo-Gothic style according to a design by architect C. Franssen.
Description
The three-aisled pseudo-basilica contains a west tower and five nave bays.
The choir has two bays and has a three-sided termination. The gables are built up from machine-made brick with bands of yellow brick.
Steps and sills are of natural stone. The gabled and lean-to roofs are covered with slates in Dutch bond. The square tower consists of four storeys and has a constricted octagonal spire with gilded ball and cross. The tower has corner pilasters. Horizontally, the storeys are divided by broad natural stone steps.
In the first storey is the entrance with double doors, provided with ornamental fittings and a pointed-arch fanlight. The fanlight possesses simple pointed-arch tracery and stained glass. Next to the door, tall blind pointed-arch niches. The second storey contains above rectangular fields a tall pointed-arch window with brick tracery and stained glass. On either side again tall blind pointed-arch niches. The third storey contains two broad pointed-arch niches, with narrow windows of portrait format within them. In the fourth storey there are broad pointed arches with sound openings. In the pointed gable above this is a clock face with mechanism placed. The sides of the tower are identically executed, with the exception of a pentagonal staircase tower with pointed roof on the south side. Behind this the straight closing walls of the side aisles are visible. These possess a pointed-arch window and in the triangular gable field a climbing pointed-arch frieze.
The side and rear gables have brick buttresses with chamfered corners and steps. Between these are coupled pointed-arch windows in the side aisles, and some pointed-arch windows in the choir. Below the sills and at the gutterlines the brickwork is provided with broad relief ornamental bands. In the roof plane of the central nave, the side aisles and the choir are alternating small dormer windows under a hipped roof with pantile. Between the side aisle and the choir is on the south side a former baptistry chapel. This low building has three windows under segmental arch and a hipped roof. On the ridge of the choir is a gilded ball with a worked cross placed.
The interior contains besides the grisaille glass by F. Nicolas and Sons from Roermond stone cross vaults above the pointed-arch separating arches. Everything is executed in neo-gothic style, including the further decoration. The firm Glaudemans from Den Bosch supplied the decorated tile flooring.
H. van der Geld executed the high altar and Maria altar in 1901: the St. Joseph altar followed in 1914. From his hand is also the oak wooden pulpit with limestone base upon which reliefs. This came into being between 1900 and 1910. From 1901 stems the hardstone baptismal font with copper cover.
The interior contains many statues, several by the hand of J. Custers. The Way of the Cross stations on canvas date from 1928, painted by Jacobs.
