Inleiding
MONUMENT uit 1915 in Neogotische stijl, staande op een buiten gebruik geraakt kerkhof. Het kerkhof is toegankelijk via een ijzeren hek tussen baksteen staanders en rijkelijk voorzien van bomen en struiken. Het merendeel van de overige zerken verkeert in verwaarloosde staat.
Omschrijving
De hoge slanke staande zerk bestaat uit meerdere delen en is gemaakt van natuursteen. Onderaan is de zerk voorzien van een reeks spitsboognissen. De bovenzijde heeft een zadeldakvormige beëindiging met deels nog de gotiserende stenen sierrand. In de bovenzijde is een spitsboognis aangebracht waarin een beeldje van een gesluierde heilige in lang gewaad, met een boek in de hand. Blijkens een inscriptie betreft het hier St. Francisca. Een ander opschrift geeft uitkomst omtrent de identiteit van de begravene. "Hier rust het stoffelijk overshot (sic !) van Francisca Vermeulen geb. te Maren 17 mrt. 1860 overl. aldaar 16 oct. 1915.
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van de beeldhouwersateliers in het zuiden. MONUMENT from 1915 in Neo-Gothic style, standing in a disused cemetery. The cemetery is accessible via an iron gate between brick pillars and abundantly provided with trees and shrubs. The majority of the remaining gravestones are in a neglected state.
Description
The tall slender standing gravestone consists of multiple parts and is made of natural stone. At the bottom the gravestone is provided with a series of pointed arch recesses. The top has a saddle-roof-shaped termination with partially still the Gothic-styled stone decorative edge. A pointed arch recess is set in the top containing a small figure of a veiled saint in long robes, holding a book in hand. According to an inscription this is St. Francis. Another inscription provides information about the identity of the buried person. "Here rests the mortal remains (sic!) of Francisca Vermeulen born in Maren 17 Mar. 1860 died there 16 Oct. 1915.
Valuation
The funerary monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic funerary culture, and is also of significance for typological development.
