Omschrijving
DOUANEGEBOUW in Functionalistische stijl, ontworpen door ir. D. Roosenburg (vormgeving) in samenwerking met Bureau Zuiderzeewerken en behorende bij de Lorentzsluizen uit 1930-1933.
Het gebouw, gelegen tussen de schutsluizen te Kornwerderzand, is opgetrokken in rode baksteen, is twee bouwlagen hoog en heeft een gedrukt-ovale plattegrond met op de koppen een vierkante uitbouw. Het geheel wordt afgedekt door een rechthoekige betonplaat. Hieronder een doorlopende latei.
De westgevel heeft centraal in de gevel een schoorsteen die iets uit het gevelvlak ligt en die door de dakplaat heen steekt. Aan weerszijden van de schoorsteen: op de begane grond drie vierkante vensters; op de verdieping een pui die in de ronding doorloopt, bestaande uit vier vensters. De linker zij-penant heeft op elke bouwlaag één klein vierkant venster; de rechter heeft op de verdieping een klein vierkant venster en op de begane grond een toegangsdeur. Op de borstwering van de verdieping staat in metalen letters het opschrift: LORENTZ SLUIZEN.
De oostgevel heeft links een gemetselde trap langs de gevel, met metalen leuning, naar een deur in de linker penant; in de ronding van de trap drie kleine vensters. Op de begane grond is een dubbele deur. De verdieping heeft twee puien als aan de westzijde. In de rechter penant een toegangsdeur.
Waardering
Het DOUANEGEBOUW te Kornwerderzand, behorende bij de Lorentzsluizen (1931-1933) is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een landschappelijk/geografische ontwikkeling;
- vanwege de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp;
- vanwege de betekenis voor het oeuvre van de ontwerper ir. D. Roosenburg; - als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch van internationaal belang is;

CUSTOMS BUILDING in Functionalist style, designed by ir. D. Roosenburg (design) in collaboration with the Zuiderzee Works Bureau and belonging to the Lorentz Locks from 1930-1933.
The building, located between the lock chambers at Kornwerderzand, is constructed in red brick, is two storeys high and has a compressed oval ground plan with on the ends a square extension. The whole is covered by a rectangular concrete plate. Below it a continuous lintel.
The west facade has centrally in the facade a chimney that projects slightly from the facade plane and extends through the roof plate. On either side of the chimney: on the ground floor three square windows; on the upper storey a glass facade that continues in the curve, consisting of four windows. The left side pendant has on each storey one small square window; the right one has on the upper storey a small square window and on the ground floor an access door. On the parapet of the upper storey the inscription in metal letters reads: LORENTZ LOCKS.
The east facade has on the left a bricked stair along the facade, with metal handrail, to a door in the left pendant; in the curve of the stair three small windows. On the ground floor is a double door. The upper storey has two glass facades as on the west side. In the right pendant an access door.
