Inleiding
De mitrailleurKAZEMAT V uit 1933 ligt op de havendam tussen de brug en de schutsluizen en heeft een afmeting van 23.5 x 16,8 m. De kazemat is voorzien van een zware borstwering met op drie plaatsen mitrailleurnesten. Tegen de binnenzijde van de damwanden is beton gestort, wat binnendringen van projectielen moest voorkomen; dit omdat, gezien de ligging van de kazemat, het storten van een rabat niet mogelijk was. Het trechtervormige, getrapte schietgat met een vertanding van spoorstaven van de inwendige mitrailleurstelling, is gericht op het terrein voor de brug. Het schietgat was afsluitbaar met een pantserstalen luik, horizontaal verschuifbaar over gelagerde rollers. De borstwering is ter hoogte van het schietgat onderbroken. De toegangstrap bevindt zich aan de zuidzijde. De ingang en de nooduitgang bevinden zich aan de westzijde. De kazemat is voorzien van een groene Duitse camouflageschildering. Het dak is voorzien van mastiek en langs de randen steken stalen stekeinden uit het beton ten behoeve van de camouflagenetten.
INTERIEUR: de kazemat bevat een machinegeweerkamer, een onderofficieren-vertrek en een manschappenvertrek. Aan de westzijde waren in de borstwering twee toiletten aangebracht. De kazemat maakt tegenwoordig onderdeel uit van het Kazemattenmuseum Kornwerderzand. Aan de noordzijde is een betonnen trap met leuning aangebracht voor museumbezoekers.

Kazemat V uit de Stelling van Kornwerderzand is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch, krijgshistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:

Introduction
The machine gun CASEMATE V from 1933 lies on the harbour dam between the bridge and the lock gates and has dimensions of 23.5 x 16.8 m. The casemate is provided with a heavy breastwork with machine gun nests at three locations. Against the inside of the dam walls concrete has been poured, which had to prevent projectiles penetrating; this because, given the location of the casemate, the pouring of a counterscarp was not possible. The funnel-shaped, stepped firing aperture with a toothing of rail bars from the internal machine gun position is directed at the area in front of the bridge. The firing aperture was closable with an armoured steel shutter, horizontally moveable over mounted rollers. The breastwork is interrupted at the height of the firing aperture. The access staircase is on the south side. The entrance and emergency exit are on the west side. The casemate is provided with green German camouflage painting. The roof is covered with mastic and along the edges steel stay-ends project from the concrete for the camouflage netting.
INTERIOR: the casemate contains a machine gun chamber, a non-commissioned officers' quarters and a men's quarters. On the west side two toilets had been installed in the breastwork. The casemate currently forms part of the Kornwerderzand Casemate Museum. On the north side a concrete staircase with railing has been installed for museum visitors.

Casemate V from the Kornwerderzand Position is of general cultural-historical, military-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a distinctive expression of a technical and typological development;
- because of the significance of the object as an essential component of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical, military-historical and architectural-historical general importance;
