Inleiding
Het HEK rond de Wilhelminaboom, een linde geplant ter gelegenheid van de kroning van Wilhelmina, is zeskantig en vervaardigd en gemerkt door de Doetinchemse IJzergieterij te Doetinchem.
Vijf panelen zijn voorzien van medaillons met het jeugdportret en-profil van de vorstin. De boom staat op een groen grasveld op de terp van Wommels, tegenover de kerk. Deze openbare groene ruimte leende zich gemakkelijk voor straatmeubilair (zoals de niet van rijkswege beschermde, bakstenen zitbank die in 1937 werd aangeboden door Vereniging Dorpsbelang in 1937).
Omschrijving
Een zeskantig gietijzeren hek op een betonnen onderbouw; hekwerken tussen gecanneleerde posten, bekroond met een bloemkelk en zeskantige spits; aan de boven- en onderzijde van de schacht rozetten en het merk DOETINCHEMSE YZERGIETERY. Het hek bestaat uit spijlen met een nodus aan de boven- en onderzijde en een strook ruiten, verlevendigd met vierpuntige sterren op de snijpunten. Op de bovenregel van het hekwerk een opengewerkte spitsruit.
In het midden van de vijf hekwerken een ovalen medaillon met het jeugdportret van de vorstin en-profil. Op het zesde hekwerk een gekroonde banderol met de tekst 18 KONINGIN WILHELMINA - BOOM 98.
Waardering
Het hek uit 1898 rond de zogenaamde Wilhelminaboom is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als herinnering aan een historisch moment, namelijk de inhuldiging in 1898 van Wilhelmina als vorstin;
- vanwege het bijzondere belang van het object voor de Doetinchemse IJzergieterij en de verspreiding van de producten van deze gieterij in Nederland, i.c. in de provincie Friesland;
- vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en detaillering, met name de toepassing van gietijzer en de toepassing van het portret van de vorstin;

Introduction
The FENCE around the Wilhelminaboom, a linden tree planted on the occasion of the coronation of Wilhelmina, is hexagonal and manufactured and marked by the Doetinchemse Ironworks in Doetinchem.

In the centre of five fence sections an oval medallion with the youthful portrait in profile of the sovereign. On the sixth fence section a crowned scroll with the text 18 QUEEN WILHELMINA - BOOM 98.

The fence from 1898 around the so-called Wilhelminaboom is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a reminder of a historical moment, namely the inauguration in 1898 of Wilhelmina as sovereign;
