Inleiding
Margry.

The foundation stone was laid on 14 April 1885 and on 18 February 1886 the church was consecrated. In 1939 a new connecting link was built between the church and the rectory with a new sacristy behind it. The polychrome Neo-Gothic INTERIOR of the church was created over the years by various artists. The terracotta rear walls of the side altars were installed in the nineteen-forties by the artist Wim Harzing.
Description
Three-aisled cross basilica under gabled roofs with slates in Maas covering. The entrance portal is situated in the central high tower of the asymmetrical main facade (east). The tower is flanked by two slender octagonal stair towers under spires and by two entrance portals for the side aisles. On the left at the corner stands an octagonal baptismal chapel. The nave of the church of five bays is articulated by buttresses and has two entrance portals at the level of the transept. The adjoining choir section is two bays deep and has a pentagonal apse. A roof turret on the crossing. The spires and multi-sided hipped roofs are likewise covered with slates in Maas covering.
The church is constructed in brown brick with a slightly projecting plinth all round terminated by a drip moulding of red brick. Composite windows in various sizes with stained-glass windows and brick tracery under pointed arches. The facades are provided with dentil moulding and natural stone decorative elements such as keystones, columns, round arches, mouldings, belt courses and crockets. The gutter is likewise executed in natural stone.
Main facade (east) with at the corners of the tower two buttresses tapering in three stages which at the height of the octagonal lantern are crowned by pinnacles. Between the pinnacles a mortared balustrade. In front of the tower a projecting entrance portal under a small gabled roof with a double door under a composite pointed-arch shaped fanlight. The portal is moulded and provided with slender natural stone columns with foliate capitals. Above the entrance in the tower a large composite window arrangement and above that a pointed arch frieze. In the octagonal lantern triple narrow pointed-arch shaped sound openings and above them the clock faces. On either side of the main entrance the side portals with single doors under a fanlight. In the roof of the octagonal baptismal chapel a small roof dormer with a hatch. In the walls of the nave (north and south) five large pointed-arch windows. The entrance portal of the northern transept is partly obscured from view by two later additions. The wooden roof turret is provided with a trefoil. The windows in the apse are alternated by buttresses. On the south wall are the sacristy and the connecting link, which forms the connection with the rectory. In the walls of the below-ground sacristy narrow stained-glass windows.
INTERIOR The richly executed polychrome interior is provided with a wooden pointed-arch shaped barrel vault that is decoratively painted. In the apse a fan vault and in the entrance portal and above the side aisles cross rib vaults. The round mortared columns with natural stone foliate capitals bear pointed-arch shaped arch supports and are executed as clustered shafts on the crossing. Triforium with pointed-arch shaped spandrels. The brick walls are painted in various colours. The originally plastered wall surfaces are provided with figurative paintings and stamped motifs.
Against the walls of the side aisles the Stations of the Cross from 1911-1913, painted by the artist Frans Loots. The two-manual organ, made by W. Hilboesen in 1900, the later installed electrical action and the organ case are not of value from the point of view of monument conservation. The instrument has been restored several times. The Neo-Gothic pulpit is constructed from a limestone relief on a base of black polished limestone under a wooden baldachin as a sounding board. Original high and side altars (c. 1890) and in the choir a rood. Marble baptismal font (1890).
In the nave and transept various stained-glass windows with figurative representations from the nineteen-twenties and nineteen-thirties from the workshop of Willem Mengelberg. The furnishing of the sacristy dates from the construction period (1939) with among other things a corner fountain in the Art Deco style. In the church a part of the original communion rails has been preserved. A rood (1889) on the beam above the high altar. The clock in the tower dates from 1897 and was made by the bell-tower clock factory De Klok (Jos van de Kerkhof) in Aarle Rixtel.
