Inleiding
In het verlengde van de poort staat, aan de rand van de appèlplaats, het ongesigneerde MONUMENT voor generaal De Bons, daterend uit omstreeks 1940.
Omschrijving
Het bakstenen, symmetrisch opgebouwde object bestaat uit een tweetal getrapt gemetselde bakken, door inzwenkend muurwerk verbonden met het opstaande monument. Het opstaande deel heeft kunststenen vormstukken, waarboven het metselwerk zich trapsgewijze verjongt. Het monument als de achterstaande bakstenen pijler worden bekroond door een kunststenen dekplaat met overstek. Aan de voorzijde van het monument is een geglazuurd terracotta laagreliëf met een afbeelding van een wapenschild met een naar links springend hert, bekroond door een helm met vizier, springend hert en florale motieven.
Onder het reliëf de tekst: "Generaal Majoor / Andreas de Bons / geb. in Zwitserland / 9 november 1719 / overleden te Nijmegen / begraven aldaar 19 november 1800 / commandant van de vesting Grave / van april 1765 tot 30 dec. 1794 / Heldhaftig verdediger tijdens / het beleg door de Fransen / van 20 oct. tot 30 dec. 1794".

Description
The brick, symmetrically constructed object consists of two stepped masonry troughs, connected by inward-curving masonry with the upright monument. The upright section has ashlar mouldings, above which the masonry tapers in stages. The monument and the rear brick pier are topped by an ashlar coping plate with overhang. On the front of the monument is a glazed terracotta low relief with an image of a coat of arms with a stag leaping to the left, topped by a helmet with visor, leaping stag and floral motifs.
Below the relief the text: "General Major / Andreas de Bons / born in Switzerland / 9 November 1719 / died in Nijmegen / buried there 19 November 1800 / commandant of the fortress Grave / from April 1765 to 30 December 1794 / Valiant defender during / the siege by the French / from 20 October to 30 December 1794".
