Inleiding
BEELD van de H. Odulphus uit ca. 1911. Het beeld van Franse kalksteen stond voor 1960 in de topgevel van het gesloopte parochiehuis Odulphus rechts van de pastorie.
De H. odulphus is volgens de overlevering geboren in Best. Het beeld is vermoedelijk gemaakt door beeldhouwer J. Custers uit Stratum.
Omschrijving
Het beeld is een staande figuur in toga met op het hoofd een bonnet, in de rechterhand een kruisvormige staf en links een appel. Het geheel op een gemetselde taps toelopende vierkante sokkel op gemetselde trede.
Waardering
Het beeld is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van het katholicisme in de negentiende eeuw. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van het atelier Custers.
