Inleiding
WOONHUIS en KANTOOR met TUIN uit 1942 met ingangspartij in neo-barokke stijl door beeldhouwer Toon van de Wiel. Het ontwerp in traditionalistische stijl is van de Eindhovense architect C. Geenen.
Het huis is gebouwd voor de Bestse aannemer Van Heesewijk. In 1946 vond een uitbreiding plaats.
Het huis heeft een L-vormige plattegrond. Het staat met de zuidgevel aan de Hoofdstraat en met de blinde westgevel op de rooilijn. De oostgevel grenst aan de inrit naar de achterliggende oorspronkelijk bijbehorendewerkplaatsen.
Omschrijving
Het huis op L-vormige plattegrond heeft twee bouwlagen onder zadeldakentussen tuitgevels. De voorgevel is vier traveeën breed. De buitenmuren zijn van handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband.
Het kent een rijke toepassing van natuursteen waaronder Gravenhorsterzandsteen, tuf- en hardsteen, onder andere toegepast in deklijsten, ingangsomlijsting, lateien en basement. Boven de ingangspartij een gemetselde halsgevel. De voordeur is gemaakt naar ontwerp van een deur van een Amsterdams grachtenhuis, waarboven een gebogen kalf met een neo-barok smeedijzeren bovenlicht en lantaarn. De houten geprofileerde kozijnen zijn voorzien van twaalfruits stalenramen. De neo-barokke ingangsomlijsting is een ontwerp van beeldhouwer Toon van de Wiel (Breda). In de bekroning zijn weergegeven St. Joseph de patroon van de aannemers en de symbolen voor handel en welvaart, verder twee kopjes van de kinderen van Heesewijk, een hamer, troffel en nijptang.
In de zijgevel van het huis bevindt zich een figuratief glas-in-lood gedenkraam uit 1949, aangeboden door het personeel aan bovengenoemde firma. Het is gemaakt door P. Wiegersma.
In de woonkamer dubbele schuifdeuren, een stel met glas en het andere stel met houten panelen. Verder een gebeeldhouwde schoorsteenmantel en stucplafonds met geprofileerde lijsten. Rijke toepassing van blank eikenhout onder andere aan deuren en betimmeringen. Het gehele huis is onderkelderd.
Op het erf achter het huis een rechthoekige vijver uit de bouwtijd.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van rijk gedetailleerde woningen voor de lokale elite in het bestaande dorpsbeeld; het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. RESIDENCE and OFFICE with GARDEN from 1942 with entrance section in neo-baroque style by sculptor Toon van de Wiel. The design in traditionalist style is by Eindhoven architect C. Geenen.
The house was built for Beste contractor Van Heesewijk. An extension took place in 1946.
The house has an L-shaped floor plan. It stands with the south gable on the Hoofdstraat and with the blind west gable on the building line. The east gable borders on the drive to the originally associated workshops at the rear.
Description
The house on L-shaped floor plan has two storeys under gabled roofs between spout gables. The front facade is four bays wide. The outer walls are constructed from hand-formed brickwork laid in English bond.
It features rich use of natural stone including Gravenhorster sandstone, tuff and hardstone, applied among other things in cornices, entrance surround, lintels and basement. Above the entrance section a masoned neck gable. The front door was made after the design of a door from an Amsterdam canal house, above which a curved lintel with a neo-baroque wrought iron fanlight and lantern. The wooden profiled frames are fitted with twelve-pane steel windows. The neo-baroque entrance surround is a design by sculptor Toon van de Wiel (Breda). In the crowning are depicted St. Joseph the patron of contractors and the symbols for commerce and prosperity, furthermore two small heads of the Heesewijk children, a hammer, trowel and pincers.
In the side gable of the house there is a figurative stained glass memorial window from 1949, presented by the staff to the aforementioned firm. It was made by P. Wiegersma.
In the living room double sliding doors, one set with glass and the other set with wooden panels. Furthermore a carved fireplace mantelpiece and stucco ceilings with profiled mouldings. Rich use of plain oak wood among other things on doors and wall panelling. The entire house is undercellared.
