Beschrijving

Introduction

PASTORY adjoining the R.K. church H. Odulphus, built in 1856 and 1911 and shows Craft Traditional forms. Design by architect K. Weber.

Description

Pastory from 1856 and 1911 is partially older than the church. The pastory has two storeys under three hipped roofs positioned side by side. The oldest part from 1856 lies under the middle hipped roof. This consists of five bays. In 1911 an extension took place on both sides of the pastory with a wing two bays wide.

The brick facades have natural stone speckled courses at the height of the top and bottom of the windows. The front and rear entrances have a classical hardstone surround, at the front with volutes. The double doors are provided with wrought iron grilles. In the roof above the main entrance a brick-laid gable with small three-step crown with ornamental ironwork. The brick facades are laid in cross bond. The oldest part of the pastory has hand-moulded bricks. The wall openings are arched, they are provided with cross-shaped sash windows. At the front of the right side wing, on the ground floor two blind windows. The house has a hardstone plinth all around and below the roof a brick frieze with wooden cornice. An exception to this is the rear facade with a profiled plastered frieze. In the left side wing are located next to the kitchen and access to the church the service rooms, with their own access from street and church square.

In the house a black marble hall floor with centrally a white star-shaped decoration. Fine stucco ceilings with heavily profiled mouldings in back room, with small vault and in front room with sculptured decoration, entirely painted in pastel tones. Three marble chimney mantels. In the stairwell wooden bordeaux staircases with rail wrongs and cup pieces. The upper floor is closeable at the stairwell with two large double panel doors. Imitation wood painting on upper floor. Two cellars, the oldest with a brick barrel vault with wine niches.

Valuation

The pastory is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a special expression of the development of Catholicism in the south and is also of importance for the typological development of the pastory. It has architectural-historical value because of the style and sober detailing. The building has ensemble values because of its special significance through its location next to the church, closely linked with the development/expansion of the church village. The building has been preserved intact internally and externally.
