Inleiding
Het HERENHUIS aan de Stationsweg 23 werd in 1895 ontworpen door Christiaan Bernhard Posthumus Meyjes (1858-1922) in de stijl van de Neo- Franse Renaissance. Hij maakte één ontwerp voor Stationsstraat 23 tot 27.
Nummer 25 grenst links aan nummer 23. Posthumus Meyjes maakte in zijn oeuvre veelvuldig gebruik van Neo-Renaissancistische stijlen. Zijn ontwerpen zijn over het algemeen monumentaal geproportioneerd en rijk gedecoreerd. Stationsweg nummer 23 maakt deel uit van de oostelijke gevelwand aan de Stationsweg. Voor het huis staat aan de straat nog een smeedijzeren hek.
De veranda aan de achterkant (oost) is later dichtgezet met glas. De balustrade op de veranda is vernieuwd.
Omschrijving
Het herenhuis is in een donkerrode baksteen over drie bouwlagen opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een afgeknot zadeldak met leien in Rijndekking. De begane grond is vrij laag gelegen, de eerste verdieping is een piano nobile. In de gevel met name rechtgesloten T-vensters en samengestelde vensters. Ornamenten in pleisterwerk. In de voorgevel (west) is het geveloppervlak van de begane grond gepleisterd met schijnvoegen en cassettes. Het linkerdeel van de gevel risaleert, rechts daarvan het ingangsportiek onder een houten erker op gepleisterde consoles. Op de erker een ijzeren balkonhekje. Het ingangsportiek, met daarin een houten paneeldeur met glas en sierijzers, wordt afgesloten door een rondboog. Boven het venster op de tweede verdieping een schelpmotief. In de risaliet op de begane grond een getoogd samengesteld venster. Guirlandes in de cassettes boven de vensters op de eerste verdieping en tussen de klampen op de tweede verdieping. De gevel wordt beëindigd door een overstekende gootlijst op klampen. Boven de risaliet een dakkapel tussen wangen onder een afgeknot schilddak met vorstkammen. In het dak boven de ingangspartij een klein dakkapelletje onder een tentdak.
Boven de veranda aan de achterkant (oost) is de achtergevel op de eerste verdieping gepleisterd. Op de tweede verdieping net onder de goot een cordonlijst. In het dak twee dakkapelletjes onder zadeldaken met frontons.interieur In het huis zijn onder meer bewaard gebleven: Paneeldeuren en deurposten; stucplafonds, deels met opaalglazen plafonnières; geslepen glas in de bovenlichten; parket in visgraatmotief; enkele zwart marmeren schouwen; in het tochtportaal een wit marmeren vloerplaat met zwarte rand.
Het trappenhuis heeft onder andere nog een balustrade met gietijzeren balusters en een houten leuning die eindigt in een drakenkop; een houten trappaal en glas- in-lood traplichten.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van een herenhuis in de stijl van de Neo-Franse Renaissance in het exterieur. Bovendien is het ontwerp kenmerkend voor het oeuvre van C.B. Posthumus Meyjes.
Dankzij de beeldbepalende ligging aan de Stationsweg is het herenhuis ook in stedebouwkundig opzicht van grote waarde. De ensemblewaarde van het huis in combinatie met Stationsweg 25 en 27 is bovendien bijzonder hoog.
Het exterieur het herenhuis is gaaf, van het interieur zijn enkele onderdelen bewaard gebleven.

The mansion is constructed in dark red brick over three storeys on a rectangular plan under a hipped roof with slates in Rhine covering. The ground floor is relatively low-set, the first floor is a piano nobile. In the facade mainly straight-sided T-windows and composite windows. Ornaments in plasterwork. In the front facade (west) the facade surface of the ground floor is plastered with false joints and cassettes. The left part of the facade projects, to the right of which the entrance portico under a wooden bay on plastered consoles. On the bay an iron balcony railing. The entrance portico, with within it a wooden panelled door with glass and decorative ironwork, is closed off by a round arch. Above the window on the second storey a shell motif. In the projection on the ground floor an arched composite window. Garlands in the cassettes above the windows on the first floor and between the angle brackets on the second storey. The facade is terminated by an overhanging gutter moulding on brackets. Above the projection a roof dormer between sides under a hipped roof with frost ridges. In the roof above the entrance section a small dormer under a tent roof.
Above the veranda on the rear (east) the rear facade on the first floor is plastered. On the second storey just below the gutter a string course. In the roof two small dormers under saddle roofs with pediments.
Interior: The house has preserved among other things: Panelled doors and door posts; stucco ceilings, partly with opalescent glass ceiling roses; cut glass in the fanlights; parquet in herringbone pattern; several black marble fireplaces; in the draught lobby a white marble floor plate with black border.
The stairwell has among other things a balustrade with cast-iron balusters and a wooden handrail which ends in a dragon's head; a wooden stair post and glass-in-lead stair lights.
Valuation
The residential house is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical values as an example of a mansion in the style of Neo-French Renaissance in the exterior. Moreover, the design is characteristic of the oeuvre of C.B. Posthumus Meyjes.
Thanks to its image-determining location on the Stationsweg, the mansion is also of great value in terms of urban planning. The ensemble value of the house in combination with Stationsweg 25 and 27 is moreover particularly high.
