Inleiding
WOONHUIS type villa uit 1876 in Eclectische stijl, waarschijnlijk in opdracht van de directeur van de houtzagerij, dhr. Varsseveld, gebouwd. Het pand maakt deel uit van de monumentale reeks van drie Eclectische villa's aan de westwand van de Spoorstraat.
Rechts op het parkeererf een monumentale es, achter het pand een oudhollandse landschapstuin met Chinese tulpenboom, Noorse beuk en monumentale kastanjeboom. Erfscheiding in de vorm van een gietijzeren hekwerk.
Zowel aan de achterzijde als aan de linkerzijde van het pand bevinden zich na- oorlogse aanbouwen die voor bescherming van ondergeschikt belang zijn.
Omschrijving
Asymmetrische tweelaagse villa opgetrokken in donkerrood baksteen vanuit een min of meer vierkante plattegrond. Het afgeknotte schilddak is bedekt met rubberoid shingels en heeft een iets overkragende gootlijst deels steunend op consoles. Het pand heeft een hardstenen plint, gepleisterde speklagen en hoekblokken. Boven de muuropeningen gepleisterde hanekammen voorzien van sluitsteen met diamantkop. Horizontale geleding in de vorm van geprofileerde, gekorniste cordonlijsten met op de hoeken consoles. Rechts in de voorgevel (oost) een risaliet over de volledige hoogte van het pand met afgeschuinde hoeken. Op de begane grond een erkervormige uitbouw voorzien van getoogde vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten, daarboven een balkon omgeven door een houten balustrade met balkondeuren. Aan weerszijden van het balkon vensters binnen geknikte rondbogen. Onder de dakrand een reeks consoles met daaronder een tegelfries. Centraal boven het risaliet een dakkapel met een samengesteld venster bekroond door een rondboogvormig fronton. Het linker bouwdeel van de voorgevel heeft op de begane grond en de verdieping een getoogd venster met bovenlicht gevuld met glas-in-lood.
Daarboven een dakkapel met kroonlijst voorzien van een meerruits venters. Aan de rechter zijgevel (noord) een tweelaags uitbouw waarin de entree met natuurstenen trapje en bordes onder een houten luifel. Dubbele houten paneeldeur met frontonvormige decoratie onder een glas-in-lood bovenlicht. In de zijgevel van de uitbouw (noord) Op de begane grond en de verdieping twee smalle staande getoogde vensters, aan weerszijden van de uitbouw op de begane grond een vensters, daarboven op de verdieping gepleisterde nissen.
Onder de cordonlijst zijn aan deze gevelzijde enkele schilderingen met florale motieven aangebracht.
In de linker zijgevel diverse vensters en een gepleisterde nis. Boven deze gevel een dakkapel met kroonlijst voorzien van een meerruits venters. Aan de achtergevel (west) serre met decoratieve gekartelde gootlijst en vernieuwde vensters. Op de verdieping diverse ramen. Drie dakkapellen met vierruitsvensters.
Interieur De plattegrond is deels gewijzigd. Aanwezig zijn onder anderen een marmeren vloer en lambrisering in het tochtportaal en de gang. In de representatieve vertrekken aan de voorzijde gebrandschilderd glas-in-lood, gesigneerd met E.K. uit Den Haag. Zijramen van de erker met schuifluiken. Originele gestucte, geprofileerde plafonds met ornamenten en eierlijsten. Originele houten bordestrap. Gietijzeren spijlen, houten leuningen trappaal met sierlijk houtsnijwerk. Bordes met glasmozaïek. Merendeels originele houten paneeldeuren, houten vloeren. Op de bovenste verdieping twee houten raamomlijstingen met ingebouwde bank.

Het woonhuis, gebouwd in 1884, is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een villa uit het eind van de vorige eeuw.

Asymmetrical two-storey villa built in dark red brick from a more or less square ground plan. The truncated hipped roof is covered with rubber shingles and has a slightly overhanging eaves cornice partly supported on consoles. The building has a hardstone plinth, plastered bands and corner blocks. Above the wall openings plastered cock combs furnished with a keystone with diamond head. Horizontal articulation in the form of profiled, corniced cordon lines with consoles on the corners. On the right in the front façade (east) a risalit over the full height of the building with chamfered corners. On the ground floor a bay-shaped extension furnished with arched windows with leaded lights in fanlights, above it a balcony surrounded by a wooden balustrade with balcony doors. On either side of the balcony windows within bent round arches. Under the eaves a series of consoles with below them a tile frieze. Centrally above the risalit a roof dormer with a composite window crowned by a round-arched pediment. The left section of the front façade has on the ground floor and the upper storey an arched window with fanlight filled with leaded lights.
