Inleiding
Dubbel asymmetrisch WOONHUIS van het type villa gebouwd in Eclectische stijl. De opdracht tot de bouw van het huis werd in 1884 gegeven waarschijnlijk door de directeur van de nabijgelegen houtzagerij de heer Varseveld. De villa maakt onderdeel uit van een monumentale reeks van drie villa's aan de westwand van de Spoorstraat die alle in Eclectische stijl zijn vormgegeven.
N.B. Aan de achtergevel is recentelijk een keuken aangebouwd en het balkon is vergroot. Deze toevoegingen zijn voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
Het pand bestaat uit een twee bouwvolumes waarvan de linker twee bouwlagen en een souterrain heeft. Het rechter, terugliggende bouwdeel heeft eveneens twee bouwlagen maar is lager. De zadeldaken van beide bouwdelen zijn gedekt met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen.
De voorgevel (oost) van het linker, risalerende bouwdeel telt drie vensterassen en staat op een gepleisterde plint met schijnvoegen waarin een kelderluik en keldervensters geplaatst zijn. De gevel wordt geleed door een cordonlijst en een tegelfries en wordt beëindigd door een trapgevel. De kruisvensters in de gevel bevinden zich onder segmentboogvormige strekkenlagen met gepleisterde aanzet-en sluitstenen voorzien van diamantkoppen. In de boogtrommel is een ruitvormig krasmotief aangebracht. Tussen de vensters zijn muurankers bevestigd. Een trap met balustrade en bordes leidt naar de entree rechts in de gevel. Deze bestaat uit een paneeldeur onder een rondboogvormig bovenlicht gedecoreerd met pseudo aanzet- en sluitstenen binnen een gepleisterde omlijsting met hoofdgestel en fronton. Het fronton wordt doorbroken door een kleine aedicula met rondboogfronton en de letters L B M. Links van de entree twee vensters. Op de verdieping zijn drie vensters geplaatst met boven het linker en rechter venster een gepleisterd veld met ANNO en 1884. De verdieping wordt afgesloten door een kroonlijst met pseudo-guttae die door een centraal geplaatst venster ter plaatse van de zolderverdieping wordt doorbroken. Daarboven een trapgevel met blinde vensters, geprofileerde daklijsten, halfronde gepleisterde hoekstukken, pironnen en een bekroning in de vorm van een fronton met eenvoudige klauwstukjes. In de gepleisterde zijgevel (zuid) is op de begane grond een nieuw kruisvenster geplaatst. Het rechter bouwdeel is lager, telt twee bouwlagen en is gedecoreerd met gepleisterde hoekblokken. Voor de voorgevel (oost) een veranda met glaspartijen in de rechter zijwand. Het dak van de veranda heeft een geprofileerde gootlijst en wordt gedragen door houten staanders. Twee dubbele terrasdeuren onder segmentbogen met aanzet- en sluitstenen met diamantkop. Op de verdieping kruisvensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten onder segmentbogen met diamantkoppen en een ruitvormig krasmotief in de boogtrommel. In de rechter zijgevel zijn twee tweeruits vensters geplaatst, eveneens onder een segmentboog met aanzet- en sluitstenen. Ter plaatse van de zolderverdieping een gekoppeld venster onder twee rondbogen binnen een grotere korfboog.

Double asymmetrical DWELLING HOUSE of the villa type built in Eclectic style. The commission to build the house was given in 1884 probably by the director of the nearby sawmill, Mr Varseveld. The villa forms part of a monumental series of three villas on the west side of the Spoorstraat which are all designed in Eclectic style.
N.B. A kitchen has recently been added to the rear facade and the balcony has been enlarged. These additions are of minor importance for the purposes of protection.
Description
The building consists of two building volumes, the left one having two storeys and a basement. The right, recessed building section likewise has two storeys but is lower. The gabled roofs of both building sections are covered with clay peg tiles.
The front facade (east) of the left, projecting building section has three window bays and stands on a plastered plinth with false joints in which a basement hatch and basement windows are placed. The facade is articulated by a cornice moulding and a tile frieze and is terminated by a stepped gable. The cross windows in the facade are located beneath segment arch-shaped relieving arches with plastered abutment and closure stones provided with diamond heads. In the arch soffit a lozenge-shaped scratch motif is applied. Wall anchors (ornamental) are mounted between the windows. A staircase with balustrade and landing leads to the entrance on the right of the facade. This consists of a panelled door beneath a round-arch shaped fanlight decorated with pseudo abutment and closure stones within a plastered surround with entablature and pediment. The pediment is interrupted by a small aedicula with round-arch pediment and the letters L B M. To the left of the entrance two windows. On the upper storey three windows are placed with above the left and right window a plastered panel with ANNO and 1884. The upper storey is finished by a cornice with pseudo-guttae which is interrupted by a centrally placed window at the attic storey level. Above it a stepped gable with blind windows, moulded roof edges, half-round plastered corner pieces, finials and a crowning in the form of a pediment with simple claw brackets. In the plastered side facade (south) a new cross window is placed on the ground floor. The right building section is lower, has two storeys and is decorated with plastered corner blocks. In front of the front facade (east) a veranda with glass panels in the right side wall. The roof of the veranda has a moulded gutter edge and is supported by wooden posts. Two double terrace doors beneath segment arches with abutment and closure stones with diamond head. On the upper storey cross windows with leaded glass fanlights beneath segment arches with diamond heads and a lozenge-shaped scratch motif in the arch soffit. In the right side facade two two-light windows are placed, likewise beneath a segment arch with abutment and closure stones. At the attic storey level a paired window beneath two round arches within a larger basket arch.
