GRAFSTèLE uit 1886 van de familie Van Asten in Neo-Gotische stijl.
Omschrijving
Het graf bestaat uit een hoge sokkel in Neo-Gotische stijl met daarop een sculptuur. Op een getrapt gelede voet verheft zich de sokkel, met overhoeks geplaatste steunen met afzaat. Hierin driepasnissen. In de zijden bevinden zich spitsboognissen met in witte steen tekst en reliëfs. De reliëfs bestaan uit lauwertakken en klimop. De tekst luidt: Rustplaats der familie W. van Asten Diddens. Boven de spitsbogen zwikken en een cordonlijst waarop kantelen.
De sculptuur staat op een ingezwenkte sokkel. Het kalkstenen beeld heeft de vorm van een ongevleugelde engel, die iets gedraaid staand een boomstamkruis met beide handen vasthoudt. Het kruis heeft een asymmetrisch opgehangen krans van rozen. In het met kettingen omringde terrein liggen kleine grafstenen, waarvan het oudste is bestemd voor de Weledele Heer Wilh. van Asten 1813-1886.
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als getuigenis van de katholieke grafcultuur in Zuid-Nederland en als herrinnering aan een der families van de maatschappelijke elite in de negentiende en vroeg twintigste eeuw. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege de stijl en de detailllering en is tevens van belang als representatief voorbeeld van de ateliermatige produktie van sculptuur. Het heeft ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de beide naast elkaar gelegen complexen van de hervormde en katholieke begraafplaats. Het is typologisch zeldzaam, wegens de bijzondere opbouw met verspreide zerken.

Description
The grave consists of a high plinth in Neo-Gothic style with a sculpture on top. On a stepped moulded foot rises the plinth, with supports placed at angles with projecting stones. Within these are trefoil niches. In the sides are pointed-arch niches with text and reliefs in white stone. The reliefs consist of laurel sprays and ivy. The text reads: Resting place of the family W. van Asten Diddens. Above the pointed arches are pendentives and a cordon moulding on which are crenellations.
The sculpture stands on an inswung plinth. The limestone figure has the form of a wingless angel, which standing somewhat turned holds a tree-trunk cross in both hands. The cross has an asymmetrically hung wreath of roses. In the area surrounded by chains lie small grave stones, the oldest of which is intended for the Honourable Sir Wilh. van Asten 1813-1886.
Valuation
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as testimony to Catholic funeral culture in South Netherlands and as a remembrance of one of the families of the social elite in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. It has art-historical value because of the style and the detailing and is also of importance as a representative example of the workshop-like production of sculpture. It has ensemble value as part of both adjoining complexes of the Reformed and Catholic cemeteries. It is typologically rare, because of the special construction with scattered grave stones.
