Inleiding
Waarschijnlijk rond 1860 en dus nog als onderdeel van het oude Duinlust gebouwde FOLLY, die functioneerde als donkere kamer en opslagruimte voor chemicaliën ten behoeve van de fotografie. Het in neo-gotische trant gebouwde object is thans sterk vervallen; de kap is verdwenen en de muren bevatten ter plaatse van de voormalige vensteropeningen grote gaten.
Omschrijving
Aan het begin van de duinhelling ten westen van de orangerie gebouwde folly met miniatuur-kasteelachtig karakter. Het op vierkant grondplan gebouwde object heeft een kubusvormig hoofdvolume met op elk van de vier hoeken een uitgemetselde miniatuur-hoektoren met tentdak. Aan de oost- en de westzijde bevinden zich restanten van achthoekige vensteropeningen die in verband met het ontwikkelen en afdrukken van het fotomateriaal met rood glas waren bezet. Het object is opgetrokken in rode baksteen waarop het oorspronkelijke pleisterwerk nog op diverse plaatsen aanwezig is.

Folly built at the beginning of the dune slope to the west of the orangery with miniature-castle-like character. The object built on a square ground plan has a cube-shaped main volume with on each of the four corners a laid-up miniature corner tower with tent roof. On the east and west sides remnants of octagonal window openings are located which in connection with the developing and printing of the photographic material were fitted with red glass. The object is constructed of red brick on which the original plasterwork is still present in various places.
Valuation
The folly is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as a historic-functional component of the estate Duinlust.
