Aan de linkerzijde van de kapel bevindt zich een WEGKAPELLETJE met altaar en BEELD van Maria en het lichaam van de dode Christus op haar schoot (pietá) van beeldhouwer Piet Jungblut. Het wegkapelletje is uit gele (sintel)steen opgetrokken en bestaat uit een bakstenen opstand met uitkragende schouderstukken en een zadeldak bekroning. Het is gedekt met rode Hollandse pannen terwijl op de nok een piron is gezet. In de opstand is een spitsvormige nis uitgespaard, waarin het beeld is gezet. Tegen de zijkanten van de opstand is een lagere L-vormige muur gemetseld. De korte naar voren stekende poot is breder en lager uitgevoerd. Vóór het beeld is een rechthoekige plantenbak gemetseld. Tussen de L-vormige muurtjes en rondom de plantenbak is een smalle vloer gemetseld. Daarvóór ligt een bestrating van gele steen in keperverband. Het wegkapelletje en beeld stammen uit de periode 1945-1947 en vallen feitelijk buiten het bestek van het MSP (1850-1940). Vanwege de samenhang met de overige complexonderdelen en het voldoen aan de wettelijke bepaling van een rijksmonument van tenminste 50 jaar wordt dit onderdeel alsnog voorgedragen.
Waardering
Het wegkapelletje met altaar en het beeld van Maria en Christus, naar ontwerp van Piet Jungblut (beeld) is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een wegkapelletje met piëtabeeld. Description
On the left side of the chapel is situated a WAYSIDE CHAPEL with altar and SCULPTURE of Maria and the body of the dead Christ on her lap (pietà) by sculptor Piet Jungblut. The wayside chapel is constructed of yellow (clinker) brick and consists of a brick wall with corbelled shoulder pieces and a gabled roof crown. It is covered with red Dutch tiles while a weathervane is placed on the ridge. In the wall a pointed arched niche is left open, in which the sculpture is placed. Against the sides of the wall a lower L-shaped wall is built. The short projecting leg is executed broader and lower. In front of the sculpture is a rectangular planter built in brick. Between the L-shaped walls and around the planter is a narrow floor built in brick. In front of that lies a pavement of yellow stone in herringbone bond. The wayside chapel and sculpture date from the period 1945-1947 and fall in fact outside the scope of the MSP (1850-1940). Due to the coherence with the other complex components and compliance with the statutory requirement of a national monument of at least 50 years old, this component is nevertheless nominated.
