Omschrijving

Description

The brick building, laid in cross-bond, is erected on a nearly rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys and a basement beneath a hipped roof covered with red glazed cross tiles or bullet tiles. The hip at the road-facing ridge ends at the front and rear gable with a small catslide roof beneath which is a semicircular window in a timber frame. The two tall brick chimneys have been removed.

The facades have plastered bands, which are turned around the fanlights. The windows and doors have moulded frames, lintels and alternating sills. The facade openings are largely relieved by a segmental arch, one and a half bricks at the centre, one brick left and right. The FRONT FACADE has on the right a projecting section, ending in a gable with catslide roof. This section contains on the ground floor a three-sided bay window with a sash window in the front face with 12-pane fanlight and in the side faces a sash window with 4-pane fanlight. Above the bay window is a balcony, accessible via a single-pane casement door with 10-pane fanlight. The balcony railing consists of brick piers with wrought iron between them with floral motifs in the Art Nouveau style. The piers are topped with plastered diamond heads with moulded undersides. The balcony drains via three gutters with moulded fascia board on moulded consoles. The consoles have on the end face a stylistic heraldic shield, a detail found on several buildings in the Parken. The loft has an arched two-light window with single-pane sash windows with 2-pane fanlights. The facade is finished with a richly moulded sprocket gable and carved wind brace. The section beside the risalit contains on the ground floor a three-light window with single-pane lower sashes and in the centre an 8-pane and left and right a 4-pane fanlight. The first floor has two single-pane sash windows with 8-pane fanlight.

The LEFT SIDE FACADE contains on the right a five-sided bay window with bevelled corners, with in the front gable a single-pane casement door with 12-pane fanlight and in the bevelled side faces a single-pane sash window with 4-pane fanlight. Above the bay window is a balcony, accessible via a single-pane casement door with 12-pane fanlight. The balcony railing consists of brick piers with wrought iron between them in a sober and austere Art Nouveau style. The piers are topped with plastered diamond heads with moulded undersides. The balcony drains via three gutters with moulded fascia board on moulded consoles. The consoles have on the end face a stylistic heraldic shield. On the left, the facade contains on both the ground floor and the first floor a single-pane sash window with 10-pane fanlight. The roof gable has a non-original large roof dormer.

The REAR FACADE originally contained an ornately worked wooden conservatory. This has been replaced by a stone extension. The first floor has a single-pane casement door with 12-pane fanlight.

The right side facade contains on the left the main entrance consisting of a non-original door with single-pane fanlight and at the height of the lintel a canopy on worked consoles. To the right of this, the facade has two small windows behind burglar bars. At the far right is a T-window with single-pane fanlight. The first floor has two sash windows at unequal heights. The left one still has an 8-pane fanlight. Above the right window, the loft has a roof dormer lowered through the gutter, with a single-pane window.

The INTERIOR is no longer in completely original condition, but does contain two stucco ceilings in Art Nouveau style. The ceilings are identical to those in the building Frisolaan 22 and Jhr.mr. G.W. Molleruslaan 2.

Valuation

VILLA with influences of Art Nouveau from the period around 1905.

- Of architectural historical value as a good and, particularly as regards the exterior, fairly well-preserved example of a villa with ornamentation influenced by Art Nouveau. The building stands out through high-quality aesthetic qualities, such as the advanced use of materials and rich ornamentation. Characteristic are, amongst others, the sprocket gable and the carved window frames and components. There is an ensemble value as part of the protected townscape the Parken, within which the building belongs to the villa types common around 1900, which together with the older and later types and styles very well illustrate the development of villa building.

- Of urban planning value through its position at the fork-shaped junction of the Gen. Van Swietenlaan with the Gen. Van Heutszlaan. Both avenues still possess a stock of historic houses preserved in fairly good condition, which together with the many private and public green elements form an attractive, valuable street scene.

- Of cultural historical value as a recognizable element from a social development. The building was constructed as housing for the new and affluent urban elite, which preferred to establish itself in substantial villas in broadly laid-out romantically designed villa districts. The Parken belongs to the largest and oldest villa districts of this type in our country and the development contributed to a marked change in the appearance of the village and the social stratification of its population.
